ARP L19 Torque Specs **Searched**
 
I looked around for an answer, but nothing concrete was notable in the thread I searched and read through. Hoping some reputable shops can chime in and help me out here...

I bought some ARP L19's and they came in the mail today. They were bought new, but arrived in a plastic ziplock bag, and didn't include any ARP Lube. I called the vendor I bought them from and they said they don't come in a box. Also, I'm a bit confused. Do you not use the ARP Lube since it wasn't included? Do I just use 30wt oil instead?

Im assuming the torque on these will be in the 85-95ft/lb range, but wanted a solid answer before I install them

here is how i got mine. and most people go at least 95 lb/ft with arp moly.

^^ Mine looked somewhat like that. They are in those tubes, but the nut and bolt were just kinda in there. No matter though... So I need the lube. Where can I get that?

any arp dealer. if they want to charge you a dumb amount for shipping or something, p.m. me your address and ill send you a tube, i have extra's.

i did mine 1x1 method i started at 60lbs then went to 70lbs then to 85lbs, mine looked just like the pic above btw.

mine came in similar packaging- no box, just them wrapped in paper then in the plastic sheath, and one more plastic bag. 2 smaller bags contain the nuts and washers. I didn't get any lube (but i have some from my other boxes of arp hardware).

I am also curious about the torque specs of these, as well as the specs of my arp2000 series main studs....is there some sort of merged thread about torque specs of arp fasteners in our blocks/heads?

yes go gradual- torque to 50lbs then loosen one turn then torque to 70lbs then loosen one turn then torque to 85lbs with moly (more with engine oil) turn on the car let it get to full temperature then shut it off and let it get bone cold (overnight) then retorque to 85lbs- this is stretching them properly and heat cycling them

Theres so many mixed feelings on these studs and their torque values. I read for a solid hour and I got numbers from as low as 85lbs to as high as 110lbs. The mosst common seemed to be 95lbs. I believe DB and erik@milspec use this number from what I read.

Not familiar. I usually torque to 50lbs in the manual suggested pattern, then go back and do it again with 60, then 70, etc...

95 ft/lbs is correct with moly lube.

This isnt the first time i've seen someone give this advice but I dont understand why? Dont take this the wrong way I'm only questioning this since i've built a few motors (honda & subaru) and never once did i install the head studs like you described. These motors also didnt have any problems long term either. No where in the instructions did it suggest to do this either. Whats exactly the benefit of doing this over just torquing them in 3 steps?

We torque to 95 ft/lbs in most scenarios, we have gone higher but only if the block was bored with a torque plate with studs torqued to the same desired specification. We also include moly lube with our ultimate duty studs as its one less thing for the end user to worry about ;)

if lucas semi synthetic assembly lube was used instead of moly lube and i torqued to 105 do you think i should recheck / retorque? motor has maybe 500 miles on it

I have put 3000 miles on my 2005 evolution 8 since I purchased it. When I bought it the car wasn't in once piece or running but the previous owner had just installed ARP head studs. I do not know what torque he used but I am certain he wasn't able to warm the car up and re-tighten (as it wasn't running).

I would like to open up the valve cover and check the ft/lbs on the studs. If I re tighten how do I go about that since they are already installed and lubed 3k miles ago?

What Ft/lbs should I leave them alone at (85 to 95?) and I am guessing if they are low then tighten to 95 ft/lbs?

Will this cause any issues being that they have been in an engine running that many miles?

4G63T Torque settings

Torque down in 3 equal stages to 95ft/lb.
So:
stage 1 = Torque all to 32 ft/lb or 43.39 nm

Stage 2 = Torque all to 64ft/lb or 86.77nm

Stage 3 = Torque all to 95ft/lb or 128.80nm
