Kelford 272's vs FP-4R's on a IX
Im planning on doing an FP Black, or more likely a Red, and I currently have HKS 272's. Im going to be swapping the HKS's out for the Kelfords or the FP-4R's and revving to about 7800-7900rpm on the stock block and head. Or to 8500rpm if I do a built Buschur head, yet still on the stock block.
How do the FP-4R's make their power, are they a mid-range cam and fall off up top or is it relatively smooth all the way up? Im pretty sure the general consensus is that the Kelfords make a sick amount of top end power. From what Ive heard so far, the FP cams suit a IX (mivec) better than the Kelfords, which typically enjoy working in a VIII better, is this accurate? I've also read about phantom knock issues with Kelfords in a IX. It seems like the obvious thing would be to do the FP cams since I am getting an FP turbo...but Im a bit stuck on my decision. Id appreciate any further guidance in making a selection! |

Ya and the AMS cam test was done on a built motor with an AEM EMS and a few other tidbits. Im tryin to figure out whatll work best on an FP turbo.

I love my S2's, but i do not have a FP turbo....YET!
|
Love my Kelfords on my Red, although I see good things from the S2's...we'll never really know unless there's a test done.

^^^ My Cosworth M3 Intake cam just broke today at a road race event. The cam broke at the oiling holes. There is a design flaw...

M3s FTL... that seems to be a common problem with them.
from what i have seen S2s> kelford 272s in a 9. |
I ran fp4r on my last setup ( stock turbo and 35r) and they ran great, made good power and times for the parts on the car.
Fp5rs are in my car now. FP FTW! Fathouse |

I just put the engine in over the weekend wit hthe 5r's so no reports as of yet.
The 4r's where great, picked up alot of midrange with the stock turbo, not a ton up top, but the turbo was just out of steam, the car went low 11's@122-123 with the stock evo9 gearing winding out 4th. On the 35r, the car hit real hard, and pulled past 8500 with no problems. Went low 10's on stock engine, head, maf, ecu etc. Fathouse |
honestly GSC or HKS have always been proven to be reliable and EVERYONE that has run them have nothing but good things to say.
