Evo won't start...found on road dead!
Ok, here is my problem. I started my evo up like I have for the last 5 years. It is my daily driver, and has 105,000-ish miles on it. It warmed up for a few minutes, as usual, and all seemed normal. As I took off, I turned right, and began to accelerate, I hit about 4k RPM and the entire car lurched forward and died. I coasted to the top of the hill, put it in neutral and attempted to start it. All it did was turn over. I put it in reverse and attempted to pop it to get it going. Epic fail. I got it towed home, and did everything I know how to troubleshoot the problem. The only thing i KNOW is, I have a functioning starter, and I have spark. I'm not sure on the fuel yet. (although the tank is half full) There is no smoke. No odd smells. Oil is at normal level. No engine light. Nothing. Just endless cranking.
Any ideas would be awesome. There were no weird noises, and no engine codes were thrown. When I crank it, it wants to start, but it cant. I'm going to tear out the fuel filter and pump on monday and see what happens. Anyone else had something like this? Odd thought came to my head...I would know if I had popped a timing belt, right? I have a Greddy kevlar tb, changed approximately 45k ago. When I checked my plugs, there was good cylinder movement... Recent changes to the car : Nothing in the last few months. I recently had that same similar issue and it was a yellow 20 A fuse in the engine bay. It had to do with the ingintion. Please look at it first. I had the same exact systoms:
cranking but not starting, no oil leaking, no smoke I wish you luck and please check your fuses first thing. Carlos |
Check the fuses? There's a 10A engine fuse that if blown, will kill your motor and it won't start.

Crank angle sensor died. Replace it and you'll be back to normal. Scan your codes, pretty sure you have one pending.

he said no codes... it is more likely the fuse. If the crank sensor went, he'd def throw a code, trust me, i know that one very well lol

Mine did each time it has broken... 2 times within 3 weeks of each other. It also throws it immediately if you have it disconnected.

I would scan for the code too, I had random mis fire code I didn't know about it before I scanned it.

I had checked the fuses on the side of the road...but not the ignition fuse. My pea-brain assumed that since it cranked, it must be ok. The others are fine. I dont have one personally, but can borrow a scanner, but would it have not have thrown the light on the dash if there was a problem?

You can get a dead CAS and not throw a code... the system isn't flawless.
Usually it doesn't just go dead all of a sudden, it shows signs. Can you log? |
Figures. Well, at least the crank angle sensor isn't THAT expensive.
