Shifting problem-can't find reverse
Today I tried to leave work & could not get my car into reverse - doesn't matter if the car is on or off. It's like I can't even find/feel reverse. Shifter slides right into 4th every time. My other gears seem to work fine, although yesterday, shifting into 5th was harder than normal & I had some minor issues getting it into reverse.
I found some information online, but nothing that sounded like this. I'm thinking it could be my linkages (hoping its not the transmission), but I'm not really sure what to look for. I don't think it could be the clutch since I got a new one in October. There does seem like a lot of play in the shifter. Wondering if anyone else has had this problem or if any one has any problem solving suggestions. :helpme: |
what kind of clutch/mods? and how many miles have past since your last fluid change?
|
you might want to check your shifter cables as well. The bushings may have rotted.
|
No mods except the air intake. Got new gear oil October with the new clutch (Comptition clutch - performance clutch, stage 4 - 6 pad ceramic) - about 5,000 miles ago. I'm due for an oil change..Are there other fluids that should be checked?

fluids and maintenance schedule can be found here: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...uantities.html
this is best case scenario, but if flushing the fluids doesn't help then you'll need to investigate the issue further |
Is the intake your only mod? Because if I don't have my upper intercooler pipe set just right, the shifter weight hits it, and it wont go into reverse (short route IC pipe).

Ok, so...I have figured out that I do not have reverse or 5th. I looked at the linkages and I don't see anything wrong with them, although I have to admit I am a little new at this, so I am not sure I really know what to look for. It looks like I may have a missing bolt in the bracket that holds the linkages?
I posted some pics here. http://picasaweb.google.com/kristyns...eat=directlink I don't see that anything is rubbing/hitting on anything in the engine. |
lmao...solved my own problem. The bracket that holds the linkages in the engine was loose...Turns out one of the screws snapped off! (see pics in last post) and the other one was loose - loose enough to unscrew by hand....thanks for the suggestions.

Geeze, good find. I would not have discovered that on my own. Easier fix than sending the tranny out.
