Evo feels like its falling on its face under boost at WOT? Spark plugs? boost leak?

Well i know that im only sup to run ngk iridium spark plugs, but i just bought my stock 03 Evo VIII and did a tune up. I checked the spark plugs and found some champion iridium spark plugs. Are they ok? or what spark plugs should i get to replace them for my stock setup?

Anyways here is my problem, when im at WOT and under boost the car feels like its falling flat on its face, its just not wanting to go anywhere and when i let off the gas just for a sec and punch it again it take off! WTH? Im thinking it might be the spark plugs or they have the wrong gap or it could be a boost leak. Im wanting to do the boost leak test but im waiting on my 2 1/2 inch coupler to get here in the mail so i can performe the test. Anyways, please let me know what you guys think, thanks yall ahead of time

Here are some pics of the Spark plugs when i chacked them out ( sorry bad pics, i didnt have my cam at the time and i was using my cell phone )

Dude, I would not use any other plugs other than NGK. As for your issue, I think you probably didn't tighten the intake coupler. I had the same issue the other day at a race and I knew I didn't tighten the coupler that goes on the turbo inlet. Tighten that sucker today and she runs a lot better. Could have won the race but I loss to another fellow Evo. But yeah, change those plugs bro.

intake pipe is on tight, so i know 100% its not that, and what NGKs should i run and at what gap?

No help?

do you have the snorkel on the airbox that goes to the rad support? are the clips missing? What you are describing is 100% exactly the symptoms of this.

bpr8es. change every 5k gapped at .025 id say for stockish power level

Sorry to be such a noob, but what exactly do you mean? and here are a few pics of the intake.

And are the bpr8es NGKs? i guessing they are and they have to be bought off line because i know autozone and advance do not have and NGKs for a 03 Evo VIII.

Run NGK BPR8ES. They are copper so they are required to be changed every 3-6k miles.

i'd recommend running the stock fitted Iridiums at stock gapping...
why run coppers?

killmode Jun 13, 2010 05:53 PM

I have always ran the NGK coppers and they have always worked fine for me.

im having this EXACT same problem and im running stock iridiums so i doubt its his problem. i was thinking something along the lines of me having a bad MAP sensor or something?
