Water in Catch Can Normal?
 

Im just starting to tune my new motor. Im getting water/steam in the OILcatch can. I changed the oil and theres no milky tint to it or milky chucks. Took the valve cover off and no sign of water mixing with the oil in the head. But theres a slighty milky layer on the bottom of the oil cap but other than that theres no sign of water/oil mixing. I have the catch can hooked up to the pvc port on the back of the valve cover and the port on the side.

Its clear water in the catch can. When its idling theres steam coming out of the filter on the catch can, I dont get water collected in it unless I rev it up to 2.5-3k rpm. I did a little searching and it seems some other people are having this happen just wanna make sure its normal or atleast not a "bad" thing.

Another thing Im getting a decent amount of water coming out of the exhaust. But it is raining and kind of cooled out, 40ish. No the rain isnt getting into the catch can, car is in a dry garage.

And no overheating, not loosing coolant, no oil in the coolant.

I see lots of that in my catch can when running ethanol, not so much anything with pump gas. How do you have the can plumbed in?

Combine a cold catch can with warm oil/air and you get condensation :)

Gasoline mixed with air and burned equals carbon dioxide and water. Most of this goes out the exhaust. So, if your exhaust is cold, the water condenses. But some of these combustion gases leak past the rings and go to the crankcase. When this hits a cold catch can the water will also condense.

I had that same thing occur briefly for a week, i.e. H20/oil emulsion in catch, unusual amount of water vapor emitted out tail pipe. This was due to improperly installed valve seals. As soon as I fully seated the seals the catch was back to normal with oil in it, and the exhaust no longer sprinkled water out the tail pipe. And the god awful smell of burning oil was gone
