Removing Head, but won't budge
 

I am trying to remove my head to change out a head gasket.

The head is stuck, here is a movie displaying that I've removed everything.

What else should I remove?

I was told to use a rubber mallet around the exterior, and I was also told to turn the crank pulley in case a piston is stuck on the gasket.

I used copper gasket sealent on the head when I installed this head gasket in the past. Pm or call me if you have any advice, thanks.

nevermind answered question in video. i would start tapping on it and maybe pry a little here and there. thats a strong seal you got going on

Has anyone else had to remove their H11 head studs to remove the head?

Mivec oil feed line by the alternator? It took me days to realize that was what was holding my head to the block. I can't watch the Vid, so this is gonna look really stupid if it's an Evo 8 lol.

compression tester to provide some push from underneath? worth a shot if you have one.

EDIT: or am I thinking a leakdown tester? whichever one you use compressed air with.

He has an EVO 8, no MIVEC. I remember I had to pry mine to get it to separate and it was stock. I had my entire engine out at that point.

Yeah it's an evo 8. I just turned my crank where my pistons cleared the gasket, but no cigar.

I did hear that putting some pressure in the block may do what I need. As for prying the head, I'll exercise every option I have before I am stuck with that option.

Question: I have an engine lift, would it be fine, if i keep lifting my car by the head again and again until it loosens?

I used a rubber mallet and tapped all around the head while someone else was pulling on it.

might pull threads out that you have engine lift bolted to. could put pressure on it with lift and tap around the head. not alot of pressure just enough to put tension on it

The problem with the lift method is that it's putting equal force to the entire head rather than concentrating the force at a specific location.

Try using a piece of wood and hammer and tap upwards.

One idea would be for you to use the exhaust manifold and intake manifold to help you pull the head up with the lift? Put tension on the chains and pound away with the rubber mallet to help loosen it, good luck{pcfreak}{thumbup}:beer:.

The consensus is that some sort of tapping/light pounding will relax some tension from the head. It's dark, so I'll try this out early in the morning.

Tapping the head for the win. Also used some duck tape and slightly wedged up the block.
