anyone DIY'ed their engine mounts?
 

I looked for a write up, didn't find anything regarding filling stock mounts with urethane.
I have a front rollstop mount from torque solutions, just looking to add some stiffness to the bay to aid in quick shifting. I know the evo mounts aren't the "holey honda crap" mounts, but has anyone successfully filled them with urethane anyway? Also, if you did, did you have to use a home made large washer to hold them in or will the urethane actually stick to the stock rubber enough to be effective?

You know, I've thought about this for when I do my engine build (aftermarket lower front engine mount), but I haven't researched it at all yet.

i did all three of mine with a hack saw, a jack and a piece of wood.

Support the engine with the jack and a piece of wood. Remove side mount, drill hole in rubber so u can get the hack saw blade in there to saw down the rubber and metal. It will pop right out when u end up cutting the metal sleeve out of the mount. Insert new poly mount and put back in. Same thing for the other side of the engine.

I found the harder one to get out from the actual engine bay was the driver's side. I had to tilt the engine to move the mount out. Time consuming by definitely not hard to do.

i was talking about filling the mounts with 3M window weld polyurethane. not installing inserts.

because the mounts do not have the spaces in them like most do, im curious if this is even possible. i guess what i could do is cut them out, make a template out of metal/cardboard or something that will hold the collar in there, and fill,tape,seal for a couple days. that could work.

That would work. Just make sure your mock up is 100% straight or you'll be fighting them on the reinstall.

Ya, ill make the templates with the mount still together, that way itll line up just right.

Ill take pics and include in the DIY section. Should work well, and save a few bucks.

I just punched out the stock crap, and put some 3.5" delrin on the lathe and made some solid mounts. They are a bit ruff but it does not bother me that much. I only did 3 mounts and left the trans mount alone.

did you do the rear mount?

and why leave the tranny mount?

Sorry I ment I left the rear mount alone, and yes I did the tranny mount.

I actually filled mine with the 80 shore urethane from Mcmastercarr... I drilled extra holes through each mount, taped one side with a coffee lid, and filled and let them sit over night. They have been holding up great for over 6 months now...

i decided just to buy torque solution mounts instead, but may have to still try this on the stock ones

i did this on my boosted honda a few years back using polyurethane liquid nails to fill the stock mounts and it worked great.....I will have to experiment on the evo mounts though and see how it holds up. i basically used duct tape to seal one side and then filled the mount from the other side. downside is i let it sit for a week before re-installation so i could make sure it dried thoroughly

The liquid urethane from Mcmastercarr is not like the liquid nails or 3m window sealer... it cures fully in like 24 hours...

I've done many mounts this way. A tried and true DIY trick.

I'll sell someone my agency power passenger side mount for cheap. I want to go back to stock one.
