Which motor for my build?
Ok guys I do have a daily driver to note.... {thumbup}
So with that in mind what would be the best street setup for my car..I do a bunch of roll racing down here in austin/San antonio ... Choices 2.0, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4 2.0 Is always been something I wanted as far as not as many issues with headgaskets and waterpumps....ect like some of the other choices but ofcourse with a buch of power the cylinders start to crack... 2.1 Havent seen many builds so that is something I would like to engauge on... 2.2 Ive seen a couple also but not many 2.3 well the most known is BR2.3 And they love those motors so would a 2.3 and 4.11 final drive be a good setup since torque carries you threw the gear? and 2.4 from reading Ive heard alot of good and bad...... Input and personal experience Is what i would like I havent talked to any shops yet just gauging intrest on personal experince then when I get serious of what I want Ill start talking to a shop and see what they think... |
I have a 2.4LR engine which is more balanced than the 2.3L. I live in the 8K+ RPM range with my EF4 turbo.
|
The built 4G64 2.4L isn't the troublesome engine it used to be, lots of time and money have made these the top choice for street cars and the long rod version even more so. I personally like the 2.1L & 2.2L.
I have a 2.3L as it was cost effective for the parts I already have and with the 61mm turbo I have, there's no need to run it over 7500 rpm as the peak power is around 6800. |
Sweet So I assume The 2.4 is or is becoming a better build from what Ive been reading but it does look like the 2.2 has the best of both worlds.....some torque and rpms because i saw one with a fp red and that thing was a beast!!!

The standard rule of thumb most people follow is if you have a clean 4g63 block go with a 2.3L, otherwise build a 2.4L.
|
I like the LR2.4 for a solid street motor, if you are thinking about the final drive anyway it makes it an easy to choice to run the largest motor you can and rev it as high as possible. For instance a 245-45-17, the 4.11, and an 8800rpm rev limit is 159ish at the top of 4th.
|
2.3 or 2.4 is the way to go, nothing but win in either engine {thumbup}
|
if you are going with something other then a 2.0l id go with the 4g64 2.4l. Better rod angles. If your looking for a street car go with a 2.4 and sell ur block.
|
I think 2.4LR Is what im leaning towards and 8500k safely is where I want the revs.....
but BR2.3 Is also calling my name I guess ever since the 4.11 the 2.4LR have been great for big turbos and rpms..... Its just so hard to pick..... |

this should help |
i have recently changed over to 2.4lr.
I cannot comment on track performance but it is easier to drive around town and more fun. boost come on so much faster so your mpg will suffer big time |
LR2.4L is incredible. I drove my car for the first time this weekend, and was beyond impressed. The out of boost response is that of a high compression n/a Honda. My Evo will never see another motor.
