Good power but WTH with traps/ ET's

I'll try to explain this as best I can on what has been going on. Basically I have tried 2 turbo setups and I am hitting a wall. This is an ET & trap speed barrier, it seems that no matter what I can't break 12.0-12.2x and 112.xx mph.
Before the question is asked or suggestion made to do a boost leak check, comperssion check, or leak down they have and they are good. I keep on top of maintaing my Evo.
The car during tuning runs has made excellent power and TQ. Tuning runs have always been 3 gear pulls and 4th gear to make sure that everything is clean. With out picking things apart too much the #'s on 91 pump have all been in the high 300's on the tuning runs. The tuning runs on the latest turbo were 370+ tuned at a high altitude with about 95 deg. air temps on 91 oct. fuel. Similar #'s have been done on other evos in my area on race gas and these cars have pushed mid 11's on out track which is at 4000 ft.
The car has and still does pull very hard in all gears, hell my car now pulls in 5th like it used to in 4th. I am making NO complaints on quality and function of the new turbo (will be listed below). To be honest I was worred about some lag on this thing but PPPPSSSSHSHHHHH the car is very smooth and does not act like a hammer now. That was only due to using a smaller stock frame upgraded turbo.
However even that set up made power that others have run 11's. Another thing that makes this very ODD is that we usually pick up 3/10s of a second and 3 MPH in the 1/4 mile when going to race in Sacramento, but I'm still stuck at the above ET's and Traps.
So I was wondering if anyone had any idea why I'm stuck at this wall?

Engine:
2.4L 9.0:1, kelford 272, MAP rev2 intake, ported exh. mani., ported EF3 @ 25psi,
CBRD 3" wide mouth O2/down pipe combo (new one), lightly ported head, EXEDY HD twin, Greddy EVO 2 exh catless. ETS 3.5" FMIC and short rout piping.

If you post a video of your car going down the track it would help.

I am guessing that its your driving at this point.

Do you let off the gas pedal when you shift?

RoMeIX Jul 23, 2012 05:44 PM

If the power is consistently there, I'd guess it's your driving.

Using NLTS. I wouldn't really say driving, even if I goof a shift car will still pull to 112 then that's it. Something about a drag launch where boost is built prior to take off. On a roll run I have no issues.

Heres 1 of the last tuning runs...3800 rpm peak boost -> 7500, 25 psi, 11.8 AFR, in 4th gear, 91 octane

thanks Jer.k. I can't seem to upload the excel file you emailed me but I'll see if i can email it to Chris. Thanks again.

Have you logged a pass down the track?

Murf Jul 23, 2012 08:40 PM

Have not logged a track run in a good while (last year). I have deleted most of those now. I can try and get one from a make shift 1/4 track later. Thats peaking my intrest now too to do a 4th gear roll and a back up log on a 1/4 run.

C130flyer Jul 23, 2012 09:49 PM

Well there is most definitely a driving issue if you are using NLTS.

NLTS is neat and it can be fun, BUT if you require NLTS in order to power shift THEN you CANNOT power shift.

Before you get mad please let me explain.

If you shift fast enough while keeping the pedal to the floor, NLTS is NOT NEEDED and is probly slowing you down.

It is most definitely faster to shift the car WITHOUT NLTS.

NLTS is for people that CANNOT power shift fast enough.

If an upshift is completed properly and with great speed then NLTS is simply not needed. You should be able to catch the motor with the clutch before it hits the rev limiter.

1. keep pedal on the floor for the whole pass.

2. kick clutch grab next gear till race over.

I know you are probly doubting me but it is true.

add more boost, and a lot more fuel. your car with those mods should be able to handle 29 psi on 91.

also, what kind of boost control?

batty200 Jul 25, 2012 06:04 AM

Are you letting off at redline in 4th? Stock rev limit is at right about that speed. Do you have any vdr graphs to see if the power is falling off on the top end? My car ran 112.7 with everything on the engine and IC/piping stock. Just injectors pump filter exhaust and a tune. With your mods at 25psi I would expect 120-125mph.

no way hes trapping 120-125mph with that set up.

^ exactly I'm no hitting the traps I should be. Its like something is stopping the cars speed at 112. I'm going to pull some 1-4th gear logs using NLTS and without.

escodotcarter Jul 25, 2012 11:06 AM

112 seems about right to be honest. Are you on stock rev limiter? Also, I'm assuming you know that "trap" speed is not the speed at which you cross the finish line at, its an average of the last some odd number of feet. I believe 60 feet. (cant recall exact number)

Murf Jul 25, 2012 12:40 PM

Trap speed is the MPH measured in the last 60 ft. From the final box to the finish giving you your finishing MPH. It's math x speed covers x distance in x time. And 112 is low for what tuning logs suggest. But the issue is only on a drag launch.
