Did a Launch in my 4wd Evo 3, and then BOOM Instant Rear Wheel Drive
So i did a search on the forum, did a google search with the tags evolutionm blown drive train rear wheel drive... and did a general google search - No luck.
Anyways... Lined up for the quarter mile at the drag strip, launched at 6500rpm and once i slipped the clutch to blast down the quarter mile, what was expected to be a grippy 4wd launch off the line ended up with all 420Kw of 4G63 fury transferred only to the rear wheels. Obviously I've blown something in the drive train, what is it? Didn't hear anything go bang or snap either. Definitely not the axles or front diff, otherwise my car would be behaving like it had a slipping clutch. So might it be the center diff or something else? Can someone confirm? Car drives normally, but when traction is broken, rear wheels spin up. Any help is much appreciated. |
Could you have striped the teeth on both front drive shafts?

if you ended up rolling back, or went in reverse, to get back to the line without rolling forward afterwards that shock from the teeth hitting, rather than already being in contact, can do damage.

problem is twofold.
only way to have rwd only is with centerdiff locked and no fwd . if you have no power to front axles then you either have a broke axle or broke front diff. if you dont have a broke front axle then both problems exist in the trans. so trying to determine problem is mute. you need a tranny rebuild. |

Pulled it apart, destroyed the internals of the center diff.
Just going to lock it/weld it up if i can. |

Center differential is in the transmission.
and the front diff is in gearbox |
I did this on my 1995 TSI AWD. Get it fixed pronto as the car isn't designed to handle 100% RWD. Mine was amazingly fixed for free by Mitsu as it was a TSB way past warranty too.
