Problem with ATP's Garrett Ni-resist TS housing?

Hello Forum, is there anyone else with the new Garrett Ni-resist turbine housing? I was about to install it on a customer's 3071, when I discovered it wasn't possible as the seat is different! Moreover on the same turbo in the last years I installed both the ATP's AirResearch TS 0.78 and 1.06 with success, so it really seems to me that something is wrong with the last housing I received. Please have a look at the pics, thanks http://i40.tinypic.com/wuhug5.jpg http://i43.tinypic.com/2vbotts.jpg

can you confirm it's the correct part number for that turbo?
Could they have sent you the wrong part?

I pulled my GTX3576r off the ATP 1.06 a/r T4 TS and it bolted up with no issue to the new Garrett 1.01 a/r v-band TS. You can see my housing has 2-steps and came straight from Garrett.

I wrote to ATP too, so I'm just waiting for a reply.
I really don't know what happened as these housings are just for GT30 and 35, but this housing seat has a smaller hole than the GT30 is, so I received something for a smaller turbo???

Thanks 240z.
Even if mine is a GT30, my CHRA has also 2 steps, so I'm more and more convinced they sent me a wrong housing even if it's definitely a new Garrett Ni-resist one

The turbo you have is not a standard Garrett. It looks like it's from Owens Development and they have modified it with a non-standard heat shroud (the part under the turbine wheel).

This is what a standard Garrett GT30 CHRA looks like with the 60mm turbine wheel and has 3 steps:

A GT35 CHRA with the 68mm turbine wheel has 2 steps and hence why 240Z's housing also has 2 steps:

Hi spd, thanks for the reply.
Yes I thought about my heat shroud being different, as it was changed 3 yrs ago because damaged,
that's why I asked here for a feedback but then why my 2 AirResearch housings from ATP have both the 2 steps ?:confused::confused:

Your old AirResearch housings were probably only cut one way in order to save costs. You can fit the 2-step, GT35 housing on a GT30 CHRA, but not vice versa. So I can see it being done as a cost saving measure/simplicity measure as they only have to stock one part number/have one machining.

Ah ok,
so you're saying I could fit a GT35 turbine housing with the only difference being the wheel measure as the housing should be 100% equal?
And do you think it'd be 100% ok to machine my GT30 housing seat to 2-step, or 3-step is somewhat better?
Thanks

So if I wasn't sure about staying with a gt3076r which i currently have, I could get a gt35 turbine TS housing and it would work on my existing gt30 and I would also be able to use it in the future if I go to gtx3576? Am I reading that right?

No.... the turbine wheel for the GT35 is much bigger at 68mm diameter compared to 60mm for the GT30.
