Evo 8 transmission leak from driver's side
Alright, I recently put my new tranny in and it started leaking right off the bat. Initially it was a pretty decent amount coming from the driver's side. I took the axle back out and replaced the seal and the leak slowed but didn't stop. I tracked the leak down to a small hole thing with what looks like a ball bearing in it. Below is a pic I took of it on my old transmission. It's the upper one that is currently leaking.
What is this called? Is it some pressure release or something from the housing? Why would it be leaking and how do I fix it? Thank you. http://i479.photobucket.com/albums/r...010_214203.jpg |
I think it is a hole in the case that shouldn't be there. Maybe some 2 part engine epoxy.

Does anyone else have some solid insight on this? My evo ix trans is leaking from the same spot

Any updates on this? Chasing a slow trans fluid leak from the drivers side of my evo.

Well if it was me at work I'd start with heating the metal and tryto drive the ball in a little deeper. If it's still leaking and it's my car I'd brake clean the hell out of it and seal it with some high grade epoxy. If it was a customer car I'd replace the trans case. Don't really think there'd be many other options.

Just weld over it. Fill the hole with aluminum.

Just a comment. Yeah, this is aluminium and aluminium can be welded. But welded aluminium always warps. I welded a crack in the aluminium tub on my lawn mower and now one wheel is off of the ground. So, be cautious.

That's where the oil galley's are cross drilled to finger oil tinge bearings and fill the output shaft.. They then plug them with those balls.
