main's oil clearance
i'm bildind a engine.
got to the bearings now. I have a oil clearance off 0.08mm ( 0.0031) on the mains. Engine is a 2.0 long rod with a BR FP HTA3582R turbo. Is the clearance too much? |

and no comment?/? |
0.003" sounds good for over 700whp engines but I wouldn't go over 0.003" on a 35R setup...
If you are going to listen your engine, check your tune and oil level time to time than running looser clearances is not that bad... What is your power and rpm goal ? |
650 and 9000 rpm.
If the turbo got the puff to go 9k prm I can get the normal size Acl bearing's.. Got the Hx serie now. Clearance goes to 0.002 with those |
Coming from personal experience do not run .003 on the mains. Run a standard H bearing on the mains with a HX bearing for the rods with at least 4x(3x with an oil squirter) side clearance.

The P2W is @ 0.7mm
And i just ordered a new set main and big and bearings....just to make sure ;) Ones they are in I'll report back.. Thanks! !! |
Was it torque plate honed? The PTW seems tight but without knowing what piston you are using I would say that is shooting into the dark by saying that.
|
Yes it is torque plate honed.
Pistons are Wiseco's :) |
Hd pistons or standard pistons. I know the standards call for .0025 ptw and the HD's are at least .0035(our custom pistons call for .0045). But I am sure you guys have it covered! Good luck with the build.

They are the std one's. . And at 0.027 overseas size ;) .. so should be spot on.
Just the bearing size I'm struggling with. The normal size Acl's will come in tomorrow :) |
