EVO IV's AYC problem
 

Based on what I read on MLR, the EVO IV and early V's AYC are prone to problems (ECU, and clutch discs). What can be done to fix this other that swapping out the complete unit for an RS mechanical unit? However, this way, I have to get new drive shafts and axles, right?

Will getting a Cusco LSD to replace the LSD component in AYC be able to fit that? Or, once and for all, just replace the complete AYC (ECU, wiring, AYC itself) with VI or TME AYC units?

You can replace the faulty AYC unit with:
- a working one
- a CUSCO or KAAZ or other LSD which takes out the AYC function
- replace the whole system with housing, driveshafts and propeller shaft

The 5 or 6 AYC unit fits onto the 4.

When you say replacing the stock LSD with a Cusco unit (I have heard terrible stories about KAAZ :p ). Can I leave the AYC disconnected and still have it function as a mechanical LSD??

Since replacing only the LSD portion of the AYC seems to be most cost efficient to me :)

I have a Cusco LSD for sale ... It´s been fitted on my car only for about 4000 km ... It´s made to replace the standard visco ... Anyone???

If you disable your AYC system you are now running an expensive and heavy open diff. :thumbdown

(quoted) Vehicles produced between December 20th 1996 and July 17th 1998 were affected by what youre describing. CN9a (EvoIV): 69 Units, CP9A (Evo V): 141 Units.

The corrective part numbers for these vehicles are:- MR368576 (Evo IV) and MR405906 (Evo V). The part number should be clearly visable on a label attached to the ECU, which is situated behind the centre console. Identification of the corrected ECU should show a black circle 5mm diameter half way up the adhesive label on the right hand side of the AYC ECU (this is the same label that displays the part no.)

The ECU replacement was due to the clutches in the torque transfer differential remaining disengaged when the engine was started. This could result in damaging the rear axle differential gear.
