Buschur Racing's electric power steering for the EVO8-9

Well after a many-year-delay, I have finally figured out, installed and built kits to install electric power steering on the EVO8-9. I'm glad the original idea and parts didn't pan out as it was extremely complicated, heavy and wouldn't have worked as well.
I was speaking with a friend of mine who races Porsche's and came across the pump I ended up using. The kit comes complete with the pump, mounts, wiring is set up and labeled and the lines. It will fit with the A/C in place and the stock or Magnus cast intakes, those have both been verified. I do not know if it fits with ANY other combinations, with ABS or anything else, so please don't ask me. As I learn more I will add to the list. The pump operates any time the key is on the way we send it. If you want to put the pump on a toggle that is easy enough to do. I have it wired this way so that in the case the engine shuts off or is just not running the power steering functions just like if the engine is running. I have now put about 200 miles on my car with the kit and the steering to me feels like stock, I don't drive many EVO's on the road but if I didn't know it was electric I'd have no idea it was changed. I'm looking forward to auto crossing it actually. The entire reservoir, pump, lines and belt are all eliminated so the engine bay is a ton cleaner. Weight loss is about 4 pounds compared to the stock components and the weight is all moved behind the engine with this. You will also gain some horsepower from not driving the power steering pump anymore. This kit works with ANY ECU and the entire unit is self contained. *NOTE, after auto crossing with this on the Bad Bish I do not recommend it for a serious autocrosser, it doesn't react fast enough when the wheel is yanked quickly. I see on the website that you will supply the accessory belt. Do you know what kind of belt you would use ? Also do you have a belt you would use if there was no ac? |

A little more load on the alternator isn't going to make it harder to spin.

The trade off is excellent, especially when you are cruising/driving in a straight line as the pump barely runs and pulls no voltage to speak of.

This single kit we had sold last night too, BTW.
Anyone who is interested should call and get on a list so we can ship them as we find pumps. |
another way to explain it would be yes there is more load on the alternator. but the extra work needed to make that extra 6 amps (or whatevr it draws) is no where near as much load as driving a mechanical belt and pump. so there would be nice gains. and its 4 lbs lighter overall. very nice indeed.
dave, does this pump sense load? I only see a power and ground wire. |
