6266 with stock cams?
So I recently ordered a 6266 journal bearing since I got a good deal on a T3 kit since I plan on doing a build within a year. I was wondering if I could still make decent power running stock cams with a 6266 with e85? The reason I am not doing cams is I am still on stock valve train and don't want to risk floating a valve at 8k RPM.

Op of course you will make power on stock cams it's just you gonna have to do tune again after you put cams and springs.
|
Yeah the only reason I'm not doing cams is due to stock valve train.. I've never heard of people not putting cams in the 9s because of the MIVEC.. I don't see why that would make a difference haha

I think you are looking at this the wrong way. What are you goals? Are you looking for 400/500/600 hp? This can be done with stock cams and a 6266 it's just easier to get there with aftermarket camshafts. They are an improvement over stock when tuned. Are you a drag racer? Cams will compliment the 6266 in the upper rpm range where the stock cams would fall off.

Yeah my goals for this car are mainly a fast straight line car. As much as I love auto X and time attack.

I have a 6266 with kelford 272s. they seem to work well together.
|
I was looking into those but I worry about a valve floating.. Although I have never really seen a case of stock valve train having issues like that.
Btw, what part of Indiana are you from? |
Ran Kelford 272's on stock springs for 3 years and made 530awhp. No issues at all.

You can do GSC S1 cams no issues. Or step it up to S2's or S3's and do valve springs. Its really not that difficult. A tool is available to valvesprings with the head on the motor.
You will make good power with stock cams. You'll make A LOT more with aftermarket cams. |
Well i may end up redoing the head also. One of my cylinders is a little bit lower on compression compared to the others.. im thinking a valve is leaking. in that case it would be a good excuse to do springs, retainers and cams. if not ill leave it as is and run the turbo on stock cams
