Driveshaft carrier stud snapped and don't know how to fix it?
 

Upon trying to remove the nut for my driveshaft the stud for my carrier bushing snapped in half. Looking from the top it doesn't seem to be something that is accessable at all. Anyone have any clue on how I can go about getting this fixed? Has anyone had this occur to them that can help me resolve this issue.

They're welded in from the backside. So you need to get to the floor in interior of he car, cut it out, and weld in a new bolt or stud.

Hmmm this is gonna be a challenge being that you can't even see the stud from inside of the car. Probably gonna have to cut to even get too it.

Yea, you need to pull the carpet, other wise it won't exactly be safe to weld in a new.

front or rear carrier bearing? if the broken stud is on the front carrier, buy a 2-piece aftermarket driveline. The front studs are not used.

Front. While i like where you heads at sadly I'm laid off at the moment so a two piece driveshaft is not theisable at the moment.

The bolt is under the raise portion of the floor board btw...... no where near the carpet.

grind the weld from the top to remove the stud, then drop in a new bolt and either weld it or have someone hold a wrench on it while you tighten it from below.

Unless you have a couple of big welding blankets, I wouldn't weld inside the car with the seat and carpet installed...


Unless you can't get to it from the inside, in which case you'll need to gain access to it by cutting into that protrusion its mounted in...

So you could drill out the spot welds and pull the bracket out then replace the bolt, and weld it back in place.


It is a pain in the ass to remove the brackets, but I was using a drill bit not a spot weld remover. Or you can drill an access hole in the trans tunnel and access it from above, but that just sounds like a **** load of work.

this just seems like a **** situation, but cutting a small access hole seems like alot less work then drilling all the spot welds, removing the bracket and then welding it back in place. Having not actually had to do this myself though, i am simply speculating.
