Self-Built oil pan
 
I am not a vendor nor trying to be. I am not looking to sell oil pans. This is FYI ONLY. It's possible I can get others made. PM for info.




After being unhappy with oil pressure and temps at the track, we decided to do something about it. I wanted to share pics, so here ya go. Yes, it looks just like the RaceFab pan (I think we're all limited by space around the OEM sump). Yes, it was a pain in the ass to make LOL. The OEM pan is double wall with the black finish on both. When trying to weld the pan, the paint produces fumes that make you wanna throw up. Not only that, but the paint makes welding pretty much impossible due to contamination, so it we found it easier to braze the pan to the new sump.
A few points of interest:

* Made in the USA.
* 6qt+ capacity.
* CAD blueprinted, then assembled.
* Fits with all OEM equipment.
* I opted to add an oil temp sending unit bung. Others will request -AN fittings for oil return or other options.
* Trap-Door baffling system.
* We did not deem it necessary to move the pickup. We wanted to keep the pan as OEM as possible for fitment/sourcing purposes. You can use your OEM pickup without modification. If you are sustaining enough Gs under acceleration, for long enough to move the oil through the baffling and trap doors, and you still find a way to get it away from the pick up.. then you may want to go with a dry sump LOL.
* Turn around time was 5 business days, once the CAD files were set up.

My fab guy usually works on higher-end cars (GTR, Lambo, Porsche, etc) and crazy high-hp/Shift Sector builds, but thought this would be a fun project. He was amazed that our turbo cars only run 4qts (their Aventador uses 11, I think he said :eek: ) and wanted to get me more capacity. The trap doors are borrowed from the other oil pans he builds, and it all just came together. Luckily, RaceFab came out with their pan during our development phase, so we had a chance to see if our theories were sound. So far, so good. I'm glad to know I didn't waste my money LOL.
The one draw back? Oil changes cost $16-20 more :lol:

Very nice work guys. You've developed a one of a kind piece!

Were there any fitment issues between the oil pickup tube and the added baffling? How has this changed ground clearance?

Overall , i'm impressed.

Gracias! The bottom of the sump is approx 1/2"+ above the mounting points for the OEM cross braces. I made sure it was far from the lowest point of the vehicle.

We could, but it would honestly be $500 to do another pan. It was a *****. LOL. We're willing to do batches of three or more (only because we have to take time from the shop).
It's cheaper than some, but more expensive than others. On the bright side, we're in CA so turnaround is super fast.


But yeah, we can make more. {thumbup}

The only testing will be my eyeballing my temp and pressure gauges.LOL
Have Moroso, AMS, and RaceFab tested their pans?

Balrok tested the racefab on his race car. Datalogging showed it very clearly works quite well. $500 is a lot of money to shell out for an oil pan that doesn't have documented testing showing that it does indeed work.

Tell that to Moroso, AMS, and RaceFab LOL. If someone wants one, that's fine. If not, less work. Haha
This is a DIY thread, not so much "for sale", so no worries if no interest.

Looks good. I was under the impression that OEM parts that come with the black finish are e-coated. Wonder why you guys chose to braze on that versus dipping it in acid and starting with bare metal.

We work with what we have (No way to strip it down). :D I suppose a benefit is that the rest of the pan still has all the OEM coating.

Im not convinced brazing a pan is a good idea. What type of solder was used on this?
