I'm not liking the FP silicone intake
 

As friendly and helpful as the people are at FP, they are trying my loyalty as a customer. LOL. First, there was the turbo debacle, then the misleading info on their oil fee line filter (not a huge deal.. but still..) and now this. So i ordered one of FP's silicone intakes for my Green. When i got it, here is how the DV fit:

WTF, right? I confirmed with three people that they never had this problem; it fit perfectly the first time for all of them. I noticed the port for the DV was REALLY tall, so i cut it down. Still didn't fit. I then cut it down as low as i could, while still fitting the clamp:

Still didn't fit. More WTF. so then I took out my measuring tape and found the FP intake, from the center of the inlet to the top of the DV port (even after i cut off almost an inch) is still 1/2" taller than the OEM intake (pic is not exact, just for reference). oh.

I also found that the DV port is about 1/2" farther distally (sorry, i work in the medical field) from the turbo inlet than the OEM piece.
My next idea was was to cut length from the inlet to move the DV over that 1/2" to hopefully clear my radiator hose. It worked, just barely.

No, I'm not happy I had to hack up my new intake.. but it works now. From what I'm told, I'm the only person to have this problem. LOL.
I could have waited until Monday to call.. then shipped it back... then got another, maybe, and had the car down for two more weeks. The intake was for the right car, so I couldn't imagine how another intake would have worked better.

All in all, my faith in FP is dwindling.. only the customer service I receive is keeping my hope alive LOL. So, if you buy an 84mm silicone intake, have a razor blade ready

Basically the same thing with the STM pipe and the radiator hose. I could never get it to fit right. Glad you got it to fit right!

I recently installed my 71hta with the 84mm cover and fp intake. I also had the exact same problem as you. I had to cut the dv inlet down quite a bit and it's still a tight fit lol This is with the synapse dv

If it helps, the inlet side is about 1/4-1/2" longer than OEM as well. I had to trim that back a bit (see pic) to get everything to fit. Maybe that will give you a bit of extra room.

When I pulled it out of the box, I thought that DV port looked oddly long. Man, was i right LOL.

I did mine and it was a royal PITA but it went together with some horsing. 71 HTA, 84mm cover, stock DV, and ARC induction box.

Hey kaj, so does this intake pass CA inspection mate? i saw on the turbo thread that they had sent you the wrong compressor housing with your green...

It's possible you could have your tech miss it, but it does not pass, no. It has no CARB number.

My DV is pressing into the stock upper rad hose as well. Maybe not as bad as yours but I just let it go. I may try to trim it like you did for a better fit.

I wasn't into the idea of it rubbing through the radiator hose, so I couldn't let it go. That and I couldn't use the vacuum port on the DV.

I'm really not happy about cutting up a brand new $100+ intake, but it is what it is. I suppose if they make it longer, it will fit more applications, as it's easier to cut it down than add material. Meh, who knows.

Silicone hose isn't the best way to go for intake piping yo restrictive.

It may not be the "best way to go" as that is an opinion but can you back-up your claim that its restrictive?

There was a test done years ago and I don't know if I will be able to find it, but think about it, if stock stuff can be restrictive with the material being used what makes you think that silicone is any better? Yes it is my opinion i know I know I have seen it and if I can find it again I would be more then happy to post it for you.

The stock one isn't restrictive b/c of the material. It has a small ID and is corrugated. I would like to see that though if you can find it. It seems pretty free flowing by the looks of it.
