JDM Exhaust Manifold Triva

Ok I am sick of seeing all these JDM :karate: 4G63 setups with this weird piping along the front of the exhaust manifold. Sorry, I must be a complete noob...but I have got to know what this is, and why it isnt on the USDM version. We have the mount spots for it with our manifold but just no hardware. Thanks to user 'value' for posting this pic in the Tire and suspension forum as it broke the camels back on my curiosity. So who wins the $64 question? What is this hardware below (outlined in black):

Thanks! {thumbup}

Looks to be some sort of EGR typr tubing.

More than 99% sure its emissions related

I'ts some type of anti-lag. I don't know exactly what it does.

gunzo Mar 29, 2004 05:15 AM

anti lag system .. though not activated on the JDMs everything is prewired .. just need to hook up an ECU to run it

From what I understand the anti-lag systems are pretty hard on the turbo's aren't they?

It does activate on the JDM cars. I forget the exact parameters, but something along the lines of when you are at full thorttle for more than 3 seconds and rpms are over 4000, it will activate when you release the throttle to change gear.

anti-lag? Sounds a bit sci-tech. Does anyone have any related articles or something to sink my teeth into? Does it require the JDM ECU to run?

EvoPyro Mar 29, 2004 01:02 PM

anti lag is what a lot of rally cars use so that the turbo never goes into vacum hense no turbo lag. Spool up is intant almost. There are two main types of anti lag one uses fuel cut to keep rpms up and the other is ignition almost like a launch control system. And yes it is very hard on turbos which is why in rally racing you see a lot of blown turbos and also people that use it on the street tend to blow turbos pretty fast. It puts a lot of pressure on the turbo and heats it up. I am no expert on anti lag but this is just what I know, try searching nasioc.com because there was an article that somone posted that would really be a good starting point.

Little OT: but what kind of intake box is that in the picture?

webguy330i Mar 30, 2004 06:55 AM

Looks like the ARC induction box? Could be wrong...
