4G64 with Evo8 Head cam timing?

I know every motor setup is different but I was reading the ballpark cam timing is 3.75* retard for both cams. My first question is am I retarding it 3.75 degrees on the cam gear or I do it with the crank degrees which means each mark is 2*? And second question is I’m running hks 272/272 so would i have to add -4/-1 to the 3.75* ballpark estimate. I bought the vehicle with the cams and the motor built but the owner told me the cams needs to be degree’d. Any input will help. It’s very sluggish right now cruising and at wot as well.

If the cams are not adjusted yet:

When your crank is at TDC, the cams should be half a tooth (3.75 degrees) retarded or advanced. It depends how the cam belt have been installed. After that just adjust the cams so that the 0 (zero) cam gear line points to the cam timing mark at the cam cover. So you have to advance or retard (3.75*) the cams depending of the start point.

After adjusting, to be sure everything is ok, turn the crankshaft a few turns by hand. just to check the valves are not in contact with the pistons. And check once the timing is right ;)

Run the car 1st and do the cam timing for better power from this 0 point if needed.

It's that simple, people just think it too complicated. I hope this helps.
