6 speed housing crack around clutch fork pivot

Got this 6 speed in today... Car had really worn clutch that went to the floor on the second test drive... Took it apart and found this:

Part fo the housing that holds the clutch fork pivot broke off... Scratching our heads on how to fix it right now.. :(

Hate to say it, but it looks like you never released the throw out bearing... And you(or whoever removed the trans) did this damage upon removal.

Eitherway, if the internals are still good inside the trans, just find a new case(front half).

Or, 5 speed swap to the better gearbox.

no, it broke before we took the trans off.. I could see the spring hanging from the access hole.... We actually had to unbolt the clutch cover and then cut the retainer off from the clutch disc side..

Damn that sucks, but sounds about right. When the clutch fork pivot shaft or surrounding casting arms are broken, there is no way to easily release the TOB even when using the flat head method. Sounds like you guys had no choice.

well, sometimes the TOB will get stuck and in those cases we will unbolt the clutch cover.. that is normal.. Broken gearbox casing is another matter.. :D

Well that sounds awful (to have to do!) Did you still try to release the TOB/collar before doing it?

I guess i didn't think about trying to release it with the part that hold the fork broken off. Just saw half the collar on the TOB and knew it didn't look right.

The only proper fix that i see is getting a new front half of the case.

we did try but the TOB collar looked messed up too..
I have a spare 6 spd box that I can use or we will get a new case. We are also investigating another option of fixing it but that will require some precise machinig..

If you have the parts that broke off, you might be able to get away with welding the cast aluminum back on and grinding down the excess with a dremel sanding bit.

If I have time, I could. I'm 80% school, 10% family, 10% dogs now until June. I plan to pull them both apart to scavenge the hardware, anyway.
