How to build a 400hp+ Evo 8 GSR
Just about the beginning of this year, I received my Evo 8 RHD and got to work straight away. Now that I have been playing with the car for a little bit, its time for me to start increasing the power on this car. I have been researching a lot about 400whp-600whp builds on Evo's and I just wanted to open my own post to see what people have to say. I am trying to aim for the 400whp as of right now assuming that I could hit that with a FBO and a tune. Any suggestions on what mods I would need?
*PS* It is a 6 speed manual, fully stock evo |
Depends on what fuel you can run..... If running E85 then makes options easier. FBO mods would be cams, FP, full exhaust, bigger injectors and what ever flavor turbo you want that is larger then stock.
So is the 6-speed out of an MR?? |
Not sure what an FBO is but w/an EvO 8 you will need a larger turbo (FP HTA71 or Green), E85 & maybe a light cam? Of course all the supporting mods (full exhaust, CAT delete of High flow, 3 port boost solenoid, injectors, pump etc)

FP Green is minimum to make 400whp reliably on pump gas.

I think you can get 400 out of a 10.5 turbo with good air, a Hail Marry tune, and e85 with all the appropriate supporting mods.

You won't hit 400whp on the Evo 8 turbo, especially without E85. Since there is not a lot of E85 in the GTA, so a 71HTA or Green will be necessary. All bolt-ons, maybe some GSC S1s or S2s, depending on the turbo choice, 1000cc injectors, etc. should bring you to 400whp.

My guess was "Full Bolt Ons"..............So I stated like you the suggested bolt ons.
Ive been thinking about going FBO:eek: |

Bump

Not sure why this thread exists, and then why you felt the need to bump it. So much easy info available on a quick search. 400whp on pump gas is a bolt on turbo like an FP red or Green and appropriate supporting mods.

I made about 380 at about 30 psi spike on virtual dyno with the following mods (e85) probably around 320-330 on 91 octane pump
Ets lower IC pipe 3" catless turbo back exhaust Gsc s2 cams (and spring) FIC 1050CC injectors WalBRO 255 fuel pump Open element filter (stock intake pipe) Buschur manual boost controler And a conservitive tune, everything else is stock. I went the most cost effective way to try to reach 400whp with quality parts. You can do other mods that help but are not big power producers such as a bigger front mount intercooler and ported exhaust manifold. While helpful, they are not 100% neccesary to reach 400whp. Though eventually you want to upgrade there. I know you said pump gas so at the very least an fp hta71 turbo if you want to keep stock like spool. But ever since fp raised the price on that turbo i want to go with a red. A green will also do the job but the red has more top end. Keep in mind, your clutch has to handle to torque and your engine has to be healthy. So take car of that first. And please do yourself a favor and do a boost leak test. Thats re claiming possible lost power. Edit: i also want to add that i have an 05 and that i drive 3 hours to get e85. I bring back 30 gallons worth in 5 gal cans. Its not my daily so 30 gallons will last me 2-3 months of driving. If you dont want to spend the money on a turbo, e85 is worth the drive. Its very cheap, and safe WHP (with a good tuner of course) Hope that helps! |
I have 71hta (and FBO with head work) and I made 380 on 91. Unless your fuel is much better than 91, you will need bigger than 71hta. If you were closer to me, I'd build you a 20G with stock exhaust that is bigger than 71hta. Or 20G with Green exhaust like FP54 that will definitely get you to 400 mark on pump gas.
