BW S362 SXE TwinScroll Project
So it has begun! Runners are 321SS 1.25" Schedule 10 and I will do my best to make the primary tubes equal length. The turbo is obviously the Borg Warner S362-SXE T4 TwinScroll with a 1.0 A/R turbine housing. I had MPFAB fabricate the twinscroll collector as well as cut off the stock downpipe flange and weld on an aftermarket flange so I could get the dowpipe as close to the turbine housing as possible.
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...0eadbd25c5.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...e2e34ca466.jpg You can see with the turbo sitting on the downpipe portion of the vband there is only ~1/8" gap between the TS flange and the counter. Can't get the downpipe any closer than that! https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...fefe61c9a6.jpg The next step is to get the general turbo placement setup so I mocked up one runner to make sure I would be able to work with this turbo and make it fit. Initial mockup looks good and I have ~5/8" clearance to the radiator, but I can definitely move the turbo towards the driver's side ~0.5". As it sits I have ~3.375" between downpipe vband flange and the AC compressor heat shield. Once I move it over I will have ~4" so enough to make a decent 3" down pipe. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...eead32b1bf.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...9f27511bb7.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...1c6888440b.jpg When I clock the turbo clockwise it gives me another ~0.5" of clearance to move the turbo towards the driver's side. I will make this change tomorrow and once the initial runner is set it should come together quickly. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...9992a3ce88.jpg |
Looks like youre off to a great start; excited to see this progress!
Was wondering since you have so many great threads if you had any interest in creating a dedicated car build thread? I thought it might be a cool means to compile everything you've done. Of course if you want to keep them separate and specific to say your turbo of choice for the new build then go for it too, just thought it might be cool since I love seeing what projects you are up to. Keep up the good work! |

The first order of business was to redo the pipe to move the turbo towards the driver's side. I was able to do this an gained some clearance for the downipe and now have 3.75" clearance to the AC compressor. Not sure what the downpipe is going to look like, but I guess I'll figure that out later.
https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...b4fb3477bc.jpg Like I said, once you get the first runner set the rest start to come together. I should have the basic manifold fabricated after a few more hours. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...37c34afad2.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...a6e5f9a7e6.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...2e29e45cd5.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...6978fe2ad9.jpg |
Looks awesome so far!! Can’t wait to see the finished product.

^Thanks....
Forgot how long it actually takes to weld everything up! 2 down 2 to go. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...30459e9ae5.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...2b8020f0eb.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...b55db5c08f.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...2b717f4bd0.jpg |
Looks killer man, in for results! I'm guessing this is the SX-E model Borg?

That is super nice, subbed!

Today kicked my ass, but making progress. Ordered some more parts today so I hope to have this wrapped up within 2 weeks. I will be doing recirculating wastegates and I still have not order the parts. I have some additional photos I will post later.

The thread title literally says SXE...
That's my bad, I got caught up in the pictures and completely forgot about the thread title -_- don't mind me! |
I am waiting on parts to arrive to finish the wastegate and downpipe, but in the interim just trying to knock out some little things. Purchased some 1.5" u-bends today local for the wastegate dumps and they are 304SS 16G with a 2" CLR. Hard to find people that make them on a 2" CLR as the most common is 2.25".
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...449c633775.jpg On a positive note my old intake still fits so one less thing to worry about. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...07bacc8b53.jpg Since the BW turbo doesn't use water cooling I ordered some silicone hose and connected the two water lines together. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...33f50a2100.jpg I am also going to be able to reuse my old turbo outlet, but have to get the turbo clocked in the correct position. I initially ran into limitations with the compressor outlet hitting a piece of the block so I used a sanding disc on a 4" grinder to knock it down. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...f0434461aa.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...2234836a22.jpg I still need to grind a bit more, but the limitation now is the front trans mount. Just need to grind a bit off one side so it can rotate just a tad more. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...2f016e327b.jpg |
I had a few more parts arrive today, but I ran out of gas so I have to go and swap my welding bottle tomorrow. However, I was able to finish clearancing the block and front trans mount so I can clock the turbo correctly. It is hard to see because of the angle, but circled in red I have approximately 3/16" clearance from the compressor cover to the block were I ground it down.
https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...df99a8fb17.jpg Once this was done I was able to clock the turbo so I had sufficient clearance from the radiator. I was fortunate again that I was able to reuse my previous lower IC pipe with no modifications. You can also see I slightly clearanced the crossmember because the compressor discharge was hitting. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...24a837f2f0.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...a1d104a240.jpg My 3" ultra tight radius bend arrived, which has a ~2.5" CLR and is sharpest bend I could find on the net. When placing in the vband flange completely flat I have about 1/8" of clearance issue. Therefore, I can easily just sand the end of the tube to fudge the angle and it will work or I can have the recess in the flange machined on the lathe so the pipe fits deeper into the flange prior to welding. Haven't decided what I am going to do, but I will be able to make this work without sacrificing performance. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...762a0ac4ed.jpg |
