MR turbocharger VS VIII Turbocharger

let me get this right, the MR turbocharger has the same compressor wheel size and turbing size with the VIII but has a bigger nozzle area?

TD05 HR 16G 10.5 (MR) VS TD05 HRA 16G 9.8T (VIII)

Then why do they say it is a bigger turbo??

If you can get the TD05 HR 16G 10.5 none titanium exhaust wheel (USDM MR) or a TD05 HRA 16G 9.8T with the titanium exhaust wheel (RS) which one would you go for???

nada?

I think the larger 10.5 was the weapon of choice for many doing conversions in the UK.

I can get the 10.5 for $750 shipped... that is why I am considering it..

I went for the 9.8 Ti turbo.. prefer the lower spool, their otherwise very similar, the 10.5 has a slightly higher CFM rating, but not by much..

Just so you know, I do think the MR 10.5 turbo has a revised wastegate setup so the O2 housing is slightly different than the earlier TME style 10.5 and stock 9.8 O2 housing..

I got the 9.8 Ti turbo from Taiwan for $500 (that is with shipping)

I don't think the housing is different, just the shape of the Wastegate ports.

Jack is correct the wastegate is reworked... The slightly larger housing allows for a bit more cfm in the upper RPM's which all translates to a slightly more responcive boost at upper RPM's ... as already state your spool up time will increase slightly. In my opinion it's worth the swap if you can get a good deal on the turbo and or parts... Otherwise don't do out and buy a new MR turbo thinking its a huge difference.

sometihng i'm curious about is with these revisions will it affect peek boost, i'm assuming peek holding boost will lower becasue of the larger area... How much will its affect the efficiency? Does anyone have a flow chart for the MR and the VIII turbos, that would be awsome to look at side by side.

well if you want a 10.5t turbo, I have a few.
