What's the best short-throw shifter?

What is the best short-throw shifter, and should I get adjustable or non-adjustable and why? Will it really help 1/4 times?

You forgot the Kartboy short throw and the Megan Racing. And I believe WORKS is coming out with their own short throw in the very near future.

EVOTEXAS Jul 19, 2004 11:02 AM

I say Megan racing. It was like 30 or 35 bucks, it shortens the throw, and it doesn't mess anything up (more grinding, etc.). What else is there?

v8killer Jul 19, 2004 11:14 AM

you're right I did forget those...

Can moderator please add Kart-boy and Megan Racing to the list of Short-throw shifters for poll! thanks

the best shifter is the STOCK shifter. Nuf said.

I tend to like the B&M shifters. They have great construction and adjustability to them.

The stock shifter feels pretty short already. How much shorter you wanna go?

v8killer Jul 19, 2004 12:22 PM

Stock is not really that short, compared to others... Mazda Miata, and 2nd Gen Mitsu Eclipse comes to mind. I don't know I just feel that fast shifts are difficult to make. It always seems a little difficult to shift with any extra speed when driving spiritedly. I have been driving sticks all my life, I am no means an expert, but I think there is room for improvement. There is nothing worse then missing a shift when you're getting into it and pulling away from that vette next to you!

You're kidding about the stock 2g eclipse shifter right? That thing is so much longer than the stock EVO shifter. I had a B&M short shifter and switched back to the stocker because I was able to shift faster w/ the longer throw. Longer throw gives your more leverage, which requires less strength. I did have the brass cable bushings and polyurethane shifter base bushings, which helped a little bit.

I haven't gone through all the shifting improvement mods w/ my EVO yet, but I plan on keeping the stock shifter. I just installed a SS clutch line and noticed that my shifter is less notchy compared to stock. I have both sets of Kartboy shifter bushings that are sitting on my desk. I'm going to throw in some BG synchroshift fluid before doing the bushing installs just to see how bad the stock bushings really are.

I can only comment on what I know. I love my Kartboy short shifter. That and a weighted Voodoo knob make shifting a dream, even compared to the already good stock shifter.

All of them are over priced besides the Megan racing and LS. Ive never payed more than a $100 for a quality short shifter until now.

lancershop comes with all the bushings, and a new cradle, and a heavy knob. works great!

evilevovegas Jul 19, 2004 07:54 PM

i have the megan racing and the poly bushings. Feels really good and really easy install
