Those running HKS 272's with no gears

I just ordered a set of HKS 272's. I will be running these with no cam gears for right now, or for a little while until i get some more $$ to put myself back on my feet. :lol:
Just wondering what should I expect? I know loping will be expected, but anything else? As far as fuel mods I am running A walbro 255 HP fuel pump, and a SAFCII. You guys think i will be able to balance it out for a while like this?? I plan on going to Dyno4mance on Sept 4th for a few dyno runs with WB so that way I can tell what I am maybe putting down, as well as maybe tune my a/f ratio a little. Any help or thoughts and opinions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Your idle will lope, but I honestly never really paid much attention to it. It's kinda rough when you have the A/C on. You will most certainly be happy with the gains though :)

To get rid of the lope you will need better engine mgmt. Some people like that rough idle though.

yeah, the engine idle wont bother me that much...stalling issues...yes those will...I traded in an SRT-4 for the evo...it idled crazy stock. haha

My car idles like stock with the Apexi Power Fc / Fc commmander and 272 / 272. {thumbup}

I run 272's w/o gears and my idle is lumpy be steady. I'm also running an EMS :)

My idle is close to stock with 272s and with DynoFlash.. no problems here with no gears

MalibuJack Aug 16, 2004 01:44 PM

Its not so much the lope, though its there, its the hunting that the ECU does to find a mixture with the cams and the overlap it has.. You should be able to get satisfactory results with the S-AFC and upgraded fuel pump / injectors.. But the best way is to go with some sort of engine management.. But for the short term, you'll be just fine if you can tolerate an occasional stall when the A/C is running..

haha..I dont think ill be running much AC as the fall/winter isnt far away. I didnt run ac much this year anyway. :)

Is it the SAFCII that you have?? Thats what I have, but hopefully I will experience the same that you say. Are there any certain type of settings you are running on the AFC to make it not stall??

Reignman Aug 16, 2004 06:58 PM

With my cam gears set at 0/0 the car idles pretty rough but I actually like the sound of it. Sounds very aggresive. I havent had any stalling issues either with just the Dynoflash.

awesome you guys are making me really excited.. I am just worried about the stalling issue. Did you notice the power gain right away?

Quickshift Aug 16, 2004 07:25 PM

If you are rely worried about stalling get the HKS Eids , i have it on my 272's . No stalling now , i was stalling before. Also now my bov is VTA.
