maybe just romors

Hey everyone,

Not to start any big disscussion on another rumor by a dealer but...as a former sales person from mitsu I do know the person that gave me the info as a fairly reliable source. His name is phil and he is a district manager for my area. They had a meeting in the st. louis area for the intro to the evo. He gave me a few numbers not anything about AYC and stuff like that. He gave me 271 as the rated HP, its gonna have Brembos, and he said the tires will only be good for 10,000 to 15,000 miles depending on driving style. So if this is true we are maybe getting a decent evo after all. I am not taking this as 100% truth. But I am not going to say he is wrong either cause I know phil fairly well. Asking how many are going to be produced he said 5,500. So if this is also true...be quick! Starting more rumors or fights is not my intentions....but maybe produce a few numbers that might be legit. Just take it as you will......OH! and this may be why i believe him...he told the actual date the dealers get the cars...is some time between late jan. middle of feb....but again take it as you will.

271 is what I was told too at the Anehiem Car show, and that number has come up from other dealers too. So, it looks like it will most likely be around this number. I can't wait to find out. Thanks for the info.

I think we can safely assume that we're looking at a horsepower range of 265-280. We can only wait and see.....

i wont be suprised if the limtied under 5k for the first year

to bring the hype up

btw about the tire i dont think they'll put a soft compond tire only good for 10k to 15k cuz then these who dunno jack about cars bought a evo would think wtf my tire looks like slick after 6 month
all production car's tire should last at least 20k that's my opinion
20k = average driven milage for a year

I've heard the US Evo is going to be grossly under rated from the factory!

I hope so! I think it's funny how they rate it at "271" instead of just "270". That 1 hp matters a lot.

This is what www.roadandtrack.com had to say Mitsubishi Evolution VIII unveiled!

Here is the first unofficial image of Mitsubishi's upcoming Lancer Evolution VIII. As you can see, it looks very similar to the Evo VII, with only the face undergoing any noticeable change. The most significant difference is a new two-section grille, which will serve as a trademark for all future Mitsubishi cars, that sits between small round headlights.

The Evo VIII (the official name has yet to be decided) will continue with the Evo VII's 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 (known as the 4G63), but the engine has been massaged to provide better throttle response and be ultimately capable of generating more horsepower. When the car first goes on sale in January, the 4G63 will produce about 275 bhp, but according to inside sources, it's now easily capable of pumping out 300-plus bhp. This, no doubt, in preparation to counter a potential high-horsepower Subaru WRX STi, which is scheduled to appear sometime next year.

The Evo VIII will also come equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission and an advanced all-wheel-drive system similar to the one found in the World Rally Championship car. Prices have yet to be finalized, but we're expecting something in the neighborhood of $28,000. — SM
