Calipers peeling (dealer response)

Well, the local dealer is rebuilding my transmission (again) due to bad syncros. The first time the dealer replaced 2nd and 5th gear syncros, now they are replacing 4th.

I raised the issue about the peeling calipers, showing the dealer the weblog of dozens of owners having the same problem. The Svc Mgr has denied the "claim" and will not replace the calipers. He told me they have to be mechanically defective.

I am going to wait until they are done with the tranny work to raise hell because I dont want to **** them off and encourage them to put sand or something in my transmission so it will fail again. (I'm ~3000 miles away from warranty expiration)

Maybe I will test the "mechanical ability" of the calipers by driving straight at thier showroom and slamming on the brakes at the last minute over and over until they fail... then they can replace my car, and the 05 evo and 05 montero that I will slam into when they do fail.

Of course Im kidding, but I am sick to death of Mitsubishi's whining about warranty issues. Obviously I will never own another Mitsubishi (or another VW for that matter - same problem)

Thanks for letting me vent!!

Oh yeah, I have better luck with the $800 1988 civic hb that I drive daily than my Evo. I wonder if the previous owner beat on it much??

just take it to another dealer. If you want, you could drive to huntsville and get it done at bill penney.

Hrmm sounds like you just need to repaint the calipers, if you think it's really necessary. I personally wouldn't care as long as they didn't rust. Function over form here ****s gonna happen to your evo... your paint will chip and fade and things will age eventually. I know, I know it's too early for it to happen. I just deal with the rock chips. As long as my ride doesn't look like complete ***, goes faster than **** (gt35r fast) and turns well I'm happy. If you bought the ride for looks quality, then I might suggest an rx8 or maybe a 350z. Pick your battles is all I'm saying. If your peeling is still isolated may I suggest touchup in the peeling areas to prevent further peeling.

Your the kind of owner MITSU loves. The kind that thinks that because we bought a performance car they dont have to be held accountable for fit and finish. Thats BS. If you pay 30K for a car, regardless of what kind of car the damn thing should last more then a year. The "battle" I'm picking is the one that says 3 year 36,000 mile BUMPER TO BUMPER warranty, and last time I checked the calipers were included in that. WOuld you have bought a new EVO with clear coat falling off the calipers??????? Why should I repaint the caliper? Why not make mitsu step up and give us what we PAID for.

I'm waiting to hear from my dealer about this same issue. I'm kinda pissed about it as well simply because my car goes in there always clean and they know how I am about my car. The brake caliper looks tacky and it doesn't meet my standards as to making my car look good. I haven't had a single problem with my car til now and I still don't think this is a big deal compared to tranny, clutch, and diff issues that would cost ALOT more to fix. If it doesn't get fixed I'll go to the other Mitsu dealer in town and see if I can get help there. I'm about 5000 miles from being out of warrenty and I'm gonna be really picky til I'm out.

it's the brake fluid, it comes that way from the factory.

my rear is peeling after I got my front replaced, because the dealer replaced the front ones, bleed the brakes and spilled some on the rear.

I hate mitsubishi mechanics, most of them.

If your really into looks that much take them off and have them polished.

You can also have them re-powder coated. It is just a candy red, it is not worth replacing the whole calipers for cosmetics.
