Whats an acceptable mileage for a test drive?

I've had my EVO at the dealer a couple of times now, for scheduled maintenance & for the P0300 code. When I go in for scheduled maintenance they only drive the car .5 miles which is about the distance from the place I drop my car to the service area, this happened twice now and I am OK with that. However the first time I got the SES light for the P0300 code they put 3.6 miles on the car after they said they changed 2 plugs.

Well after about 1,000 miles the code came back so it’s at the dealer again. Monday I dropped the car off after work and I called yesterday afternoon to check up on it, I was told they were waiting on a reflash from and it should be ready sometime Wednesday and I should call back around lunch time. So I just called the service dept this afternoon to check the status and they said the mechanic is out test-driving the car... WTF!

Do they need to test drive the car after the ECU is reflashed? Last time they put the 3.6 miles on my car when I got it back I didn't smell any clutch but I noticed my throw out bearing was making a little noise that wasn't there before. I'm worried they are beating on my car launching it and stuff, I just have a general distrust of dealers all together, especially . Should I be worried?

when i had my beetle vw used to "test drive" it every time i went in there. i suppose that it was to see if it was making any weird noises that mrs soccer mom wouldnt notice. i havent had a problem with my evo, but then again, i stand at the end of the bay where they are fixing it, and watch the whole time. not only to be a ***** but to see what else they are working on, and how they are doing it. my mechanics dont mind at all, and we usually end up tlaking about some punk kid who bought one and toasted his clutch at 4k miles and wants it fixed under warranty. but the serivce bay is at the dealer, so i am not sure how that would work with your situation. good luck, but if they think you are pretty careful with the car, and notice miles your wont be the car they decide to joyride in next time. good luck

When I got my flash for the P0300 code. They never drove the car off the lot. From the drop off point, to the garage and then to the pick-up lot. If they were driving my car around I'd be pi$$ed too. Find another dealership or have a heart to heart with the service manager.

thats not the news I was looking for.

Well I just got back from picking up the car from the dealer, the SES light is off now and they apparently reflashed the ECU. In the process of test driving the car they managed to put 11.7 miles on it! What should I do?

Well this is appartently one of the only problems with the 03's and 04's. I had the same problem with my Evo. Multiple misfire is what the scanner keep saying. Some of My theories I can't post on the board. But if you PM me I can give you some more info.

Mechanics drive the cars to see if they notice anything wrong with it. They might have put the miles because they wanted to make sure that the light didn't come on. I wouldn't worry about it.
