Lancer Evolution: Touring Car or Rally Car
As time goes by I find myself viewing the Lancer Evolution more and more as an asphalt touring car rather then a rally car. Gone are the days of the huge lamps found on the Evo V with ducts and vents to be found everywhere on the car, with looks that wanted to eat up the next Safari stage (Evos III-VI TME) and many times did.
Now, starting with Evo VII, we have Evos with longer wheel base, more weight and cleaner lines. Not that I don't like the dirction the Evo has been headed. In looks it's become more grown-up. On the track it's becoming a stock monster, but this is why too in just over a year it will no longer be a World Rally Car.
So if R&D advancements are to continue for the Lancer Evo I hope Mitsubishi starts entering Touring Car races.
I love the new Evos, but I also miss the old ones.

I posted something to this effect a couple of weeks ago... Didn't a team campaigning an Evo7 win their class at Nuremberg this summer? Because I am buying the Evo8 as a road car, I am pleased that it is a little bigger.... makes for a more stable ride etc

Evos compete in the Japanese GT Championship, as do Subarus and Skylines.
But they were built to win the WRC, which they did 4 years in a row (1996 to 1999).
The Evo you buy is a road going version of the rally car, and can be made either a rally car or a touring car. Evos are good for the track with their AWD system, diffs etc., but need a lot of power upgrades. Other than that, with a roll cage, suspension and ECU, you can compete in rally!
