EBD vs. AYC
Just to let you know where I'm coming from, the only experience in an Evo was riding in the back seat of a Evo IV taxi in Taiwan.
Anyways I've been waiting for the Evo for 6 years and been reading all your posts. And was shocked to find that our version wont have AYC or ACD (according to rumors).
I know this subject has been beaten to death already but here are a few of my thoughts.
From the official Evolution site, the USDM version will have Electronic Brake Distribution which is an artificial form of (Limited Slip Differential) LSD by controlling torque transfer using the brake rather than a clutch (like AYC). It performs the same function during deceleration in a corner but cannot cannot achieve the same acceleration out of the corner since EBD locks up the opposite wheel to transfer the torque.
As for the ACD, it uses the same sensors as the AYC and I don't see Mitsubishi putting it in the US version for cost reasons. Mitsubishi is targeting the same market as the 350Z, putting the AYC/ACD as standard would put it upwards 34000-36000. The UK Evo 7 is around 30000pounds which is around 42000 dollars (i think). As the 350Z is priced starting around 27000, it makes sense not to put it in considering most people wouldn't even know it existed.
Anyways, I would like ACD/AYC since here in Colorado the winter weather is pretty crappy to drive in.

there are no evo's in taiwan

you're probably right about that. there are a lot of cheap body kits selling on the street in taiwan.
but only 5 evos in taiwan is an exageration.

that evo 7 looks liek the real deal to me
or the owner done an excllent job on the body work

erikqj is right, EBD is a active brake proportioning system that only works under braking. It CAN be used to tune the balance of the car entering the corner by putting brake bias forward (understeer) or rearward (oversteer, fun!). But most cars are tuned to understeer more with these systems (not saying the EVO is like that, haven't driven one yet!). The advantage of such a system is propper brake bias no matter what the grip level of the road (more grip = more load transfer = more front bias needed)

It's correct, EBD is only a brake proportioning system. you can only compare it to a 2-way or 1.5 way LSD during deceleration, and even that is a stretch. Think of it like a computer-controlled brake proportioning lever found in real race cars.
Also true... rumors are often just lies. Just look at the "no FMIC" rumor, which seems to be false now.
Still, why would Mitsu spread rumors of no AYC/ACD if they really plan on putting it in? Is Mitsu thinking, "Let's make all those Evo-fans think their US Evo will suck so they go ahead and buy WRXes, 350Z's, G35's etc. Bwahahahah!!! While we're at it, let's spread rumors that it will only have 200 HP!"

The system that was being confused with EBD would be EDL (Electronic Differential Lock) found on Audi quattro cars. Quattros have a Torsen center diff and use EDL to manage side-to-side traction on both front and rear axels should a wheel lose traction.

I don't plan on getting a new car for a year so I'm not really worried. Does seem kind of odd that mitsubishi wouldn't put in the AYC (something that's been standard since IV) in the american version.
Also odd how Subaru and Mitsubishi choose not to show their best hand unless the other appears to up the ante. subaru no sti until mitsu's evo, mitsu evo not JDM level until after sti. etc. Why not just beat the other to the punch and release their top cars?

They'd do it to throw Subaru a curve, remember the STi could come with an active center diff. If Mitsu shows their hand too early it could change Subaru's mind about including it (or not) on the U.S. STi. Trust me, they are VERY interested in the spec of each others cars.

The AYC was introduced on the Evo IV. Liandrin11, check this PDF document out (if you haven't seen it already). Along with details on the Evo VII, it gives a nice overview of all the Evos throughout the years.
