So I'm digging myself out of 14inches of snow. I did the landing of my driveway by hand, snowblower did not have the power to blow it this deep. In a couple of places the drifts were 2-3ft.
I'm standing there, looking at the remaining 150ft of driveway going to the main road and I'm thinking, Holy Crap, I'm gonna die. (shoveling that by hand would have sucked in ways I cannot express without excessive explatives)
To add to this fun, there is one inch of solid ice under all this white stuff.
So, I look at my Evo. She's muddy, but I've kept her out of the winter weather so far this year. But not today. I start her up. Let her idle for a minute or two. I'm thinking, well, if I get her stuck, I'm going to be digging anyway.
(I'm also running Dunlop Winter Sport M3s)
I back her up, and face her down the hill. This could be the dumbest thing I've done in a while. I ease her forward. I'm not riding the clutch, I'm coasting down the hill with my foot on the brake in 1st. The trip down, I pushed snow up to my headlights in what looked like a snow wake. I get to the bottom without incident.
I'm shocked. I get out of the car and look back, I can't believe I pushed that much snow without high centering her or getting stuck. I have one hell of a incline/decline as well.
Now for the hard part. Going back up.
Did I mention the Ice? Just wanted to make sure.
I decide to get a little momentum for the return trip. I hit the bottom of the hill going 5mph. I went all the way to the top and the tires only slipped a little twice on the really hairy parts.
Twice.
I could barely walk up this hill
I went up and down about 10 times to mash the snow down enough to get my other car out if I needed too.
If this car was a chic, I'd buy her a dozen roses and put on a Marvin Gay CD.
I LOVE my car

One question though. Did you get a lot of snow stuck on the intercooler? I'm sure you did just wondering.
The front end was packed with snow. The intercooler melted off pretty fast. The airdam was completely full. I took some pictures, my adventure isn't over yet today. I still have a 3mile gravel road, iced over, with about 6 inches of snow between me and a cleared highway. I will take pictures along the way.
AWD and good snow tires rock! It's really great when someone watches you do something like that, and you know they are thinking "how on earth is that little rice rocket doing that?". Last winter I had the priveledge of pulling out a car stuck in a snow bank with my EVO. I offered the guy help and he just looks at my car and says "With that?" A few minutes later hes back on the road and I'm thinking the same thing "What an amazing machine"
you really need at least 3+ inches of packed snow for real fun. an inch or two is pretty pointless with winter tires on :P
Great story btw.. I felt the same way the first couple times driving in the snow.. I almost wish I lived somewhere that has snow on the roads all year round

I've got the Dunlops too, they're awesome!! We just got some good snow/ice here in CO (the high yesterday was 8) and I was passing SUVs and anything else with no problem. When it's dry I hate that I don't have summer tires anymore, but when it snows they're worth every penny. Can't wait for spring again to put some Potenza S03s on (can't afford another set of Advans).
I have the same set up, (wintersport m3's) and had the same feeling this morning in only six inches. My wife spun 1 tire hoplessly in a suburban b4 switching to 4w low to get out of our driveway. I did a 3 point turn and drove right up the grade and out, not a single slip... Awsome car, great post!
hahahhaahh if my car was a chick i think i could easily say my woman does not complain at all lol....
hahha but thats cool. i have a fairly steep driveway and a few weeks ago we had snow my dads SUV couldn't get halfway up. and i just kinda went up at ease, hahahha next try to go to an empty parking lot and have fun,... this car is a machine guys there is NO doubt about that
