This is an expensive alternative to your basic camcorder, but if you're looking at car cameras it's worth checking-out, especially for PIP & split screen:

i have a simliar setup in my car now one in rear brake light and one behind the rear view mirror.
no pip or split screen
but very cheap

i just use my g/f's camcorder with my suction cup window mount for track days... its effective :P
