Those are some nice improvements, usually 6 speeds equipped cars has slower 0-60 time due to require shifing to 3nd gear, but not the case here for the EVO.

"....To meet the higher driving speeds common in the United States, the engine uses high performance synthetic oil instead of petroleum oil....."
Does this mean we shouldnt do our own oil changes with regular petrol oil? Im used to doing a couple thousand miles on petrol before switching to synth. I guess if it starts with synth things are all good.

Also, notice the gasoline requirement is listed as RON98, in southern cali we only get 91 or 92, how will this affect the car
Isnt RON a different rating than what we see here?

synergistically yours, Nick

Oh yeah, I didnt see a mention of it, but maybe someone else did...Any mention of the retention of the tight steering ratio?

Yes. Quote from Jewbaru over at NASIOC:
Japan rates their gas using RON, we use (RON + MON)/2 so our 93 octane is around the same as their 100 octane, or at most, a few points lower (2-3 maybe).

That is the biggest load of B.S. I have heard in a long while...."To meet the higher driving speeds COMMON in the U.S"......I have travelled to many parts of the world....and the US, by far, puts less strain/wear and tear on thier vehicles than any other country....this is why a milage of 180,000 is common on vehicles in America....In europe and Australia cars are done with at approx 120K!!!! what are they smokin????

Please don't forget to convert from miles to kilometers. I am from Switzerland, and I don't know which European coutries you're talking about. Australia I can beleive that they put on a lot of miles. That's one reason has not officially sold the EVO there so far.
Also, in Japan, the speed limit is 50mph on highways. In the U.S. you can legally drive endless stretches of highway at 75mph(and who sticks to that anyway when they are in Death Valley with no cop in sight for the next 100 miles... ) It is this long range travel at higher than Japan highway speeds the release is referring to.
Plus, you want your car to perform at the highest possible level don't you? Synthetic oil certainly helps achieve that.

I am not desputing the use of synthetic oil..I would use Mobil 1 everytime...at 75 MPH (or approx 120kmh)....a car will be at about 2500 to 3500 rpm depending of course on the car....there is 0 load, 0 stress and optimum cooling with this type of usage......In the U.K. at present a magazine is testing a new FQ300 a kind of a long term test article...the Yoko advans have lasted 3000 miles and are about to be replaced and the car returns 15 MPG this is also a british gallon which is bigger than a U.S. gallon......

1/4 mile = 402 m
So we know the EvoVIII is 0.1 second faster than EvoVII in 0-400m, you just need to find out what the 1/4 mile time for the JDM EvoVII GSR is, which I think somebody on this board might know.

Absolutely do not use petrol oil. The car is coming from the factory with synth oil in it. I strongly suggest you keep it that way.

Fireball, I would never EVER consider using the petroleum based lubies on the EVO if it is coming with synth. I wonder, though, will put some sticker somewhere that says, "Synthetic Only!!" like they will do for the premium fuel sticker.

As I said before, but since I'm a newbie no one cared to reply...... why is it that the Jap GSR comes with a 6 speed and the American version only sees a 5 speed? And is there only one trim level, the GSR, or all three, RS GS GSR ?? Or am I thinking of the Jap Evo VII ?? In that case I'll be quiet
