Questions for those 300WHP+

Hey All,

Ive got a 03 WW evo with a UTEC, Perrin TBE, walbro fuel pump, and AVC-R running at 21 psi.

I just got the UTEC tuned at Perfection Motorsports in Hillsboro, OR and they did an amazing job on my car. Previous efforts to tune my UTEC have been poor (264 WHP really bad driveability) but PM got the car running 306WHP with 297 TQ on their very accurate and consistent Dynapak Dyno. This was on 92 octane gas with the AFR's going from 11.4 mid range to 11.1 / 10.8 at 7000 rpms.

The car is running very smooth and very powerful. Ill get dyno charts up so all can see.

The problem I had after the tune was trying to run 22psi. I kept hitting fuel cut and throwing the Overboost CEL. Now, prior to the tune, I was able to run 22 psi without any issue so this was very surprising to me. I read a few posts on the boards that stated you need to re-flash your stock ECU to handle the higher HP numbers as the ECU thinks you are pulling in too much air too fast and it triggers fuel cut. I had never heard this before and I know several of you are running well over 300WHP out there with bigger turbos, cams, etc.

As I continue to add more modifications to get around 350WHP I am wondering what other things I need to be thinking about that arent obvious. Obvious being things like injectors etc. Also, is the flash really a requirement now?

Thanks!
Chris

I think the best thing for you to do is send your ECU to a flash vendor and get the fuel cut function removed (or raised). Some tuners can just remove (or raise) that for you, without giving you a full tune. It should be cheaper too.

The other option is putting in larger injectors and tuning around the fuel cut, but that's kind of a work around fix IMO, although many people do that.
