Best Radar Detectors?

It doesn't do so good in 2004.
"Motor Trend Recommendations
In the core, high-performance dashtop category, we have a statistical dead heat among three exceptional products. The BEL 985 receives kudos for offering virtually all of the performance of the top two detectors at a substantial cost savings due to the fact that it is available in retail stores. In the direct comparison between the top-ranked Valentine One and the Passport 8500, we felt that the Passport 8500's $100 lower price and the ability to add Passport's optional laser shifting technology, give it a slight nod over the Valentine One's directional arrows and measurably superior X-band sensitivity"

I like it very much... Honestly all 3 are great, but for the money the Bel RX65 or the Passport 8500/X50 are the better buys. Here is the site that I use for my decesion: http://www.radarbusters.com/products...rs/default.asp
Bel RX 65: The Best Radar Detector Radar Roy has ever tested!
The new Bel RX65 has the most advanced Varactor tuned antenna to detect the new digital X, K, Ka radar guns including the new POP3 K and Ka bands. Also has voice alerts and Ku band for European use!
This is from the site:
Autoweek magazine November 2004 reviewed the new 1.8 version of the Valentine 1 radar detector and referred to it as the "Chicken Little" of radar detectors because of all its false alarms and commented that the average user would end up tuning out all alerts.
We do not sell the Valentine 1, however as many people consider this radar detector the bench mark of radar detectors we do test it. The Valentine 1 is an excellent unit with excellent range and filtering. The big drawback in our opinion is the price as it costs $399.00 and does not detect POP3 radar guns at all! In our testing, the Escort 8500 outperformed the Valentine 1 in range and filtering. Upgradable by Valentine

The RX65 rocks! Absolutely kicks butt, I've not tried the latest Passport 8500 or the latest V1, but the RX65 works super well. It detects radar signals better than the older Passport 8500 and I love the tech display. It shows all the threats and their relative strenght. I was able to pick up and identify a cops KA radar as he came up from behind from a long distance, long before I saw him. At the same time if showed several X band signals (store doors, etc) and other K & KA siganls at various strenghts which accurately positioned the other sources. It blows away all previous detectors I've tried. I will probably disable the X band detectors as they are all just store doors in this area. Actually, I don't think the cops even use the K band radar around here. It seems to be used mostly by emergency vehicles and stationary sources of some sort other than police speed radar guns. Still, I'll keep the K band detection enabled just in case.... So far I give the RX65 a very strong endorsement
