Might be getting an Evo and had a few questions
Sorry, but I find it kinda oxy-moronic to try and find a sports car which is fast but also safe at the same time. If its fast then you can take it to dangerous speeds and depending on how the impact occurs there is little one can do at that point. Learn to drive safe and you won't have to worry about crash rating .... A friend of mine once told me, before you try to control the car learn to control the NUT behind the wheel ....
The EVO:
1. Good front driver and passenger impact protection due to airbags
2. Poor side impact rating due to no side airbags
3. Weak stock clutch that will die quickly if it takes a lot of abuse
4. AWD tranny although strong can only hold so much power
The STi:
1. Good front driver and passenger impact protection due to airbags
2. Good side impact rating due to side airbags
3. Strong stock clutch that can take more abuse
4. AWD tranny that is bullet proof and can take more power than the engine can dish out

Learn to use google, it is your friend. If you are going for the safest of all cars the STi is the clear winner .... Oh yeah and don't expect to have a warranty if you mod the EVO. They will void your entire warranty if you mod, even when you go in for routine service. All of a sudden all the cheaper to mod for more power doesn't sound as enticing, eh? On the other hand Subaru is a little more warranty friendly .... Just giving you an honest unbiased opinion.

i personally would sell your 350z and buy an evo. i raced a 350 z that had the TT kit on it and held my own pretty well with 2 other people in the car with me. i only have a full 3 inch catless exhaust, intake, ebc, and bov for power goodies.
Wow for some reason i got unsubscribed to this thread, lot more replies haha.
Anyway, yes i know the Evo is alot easier/cheaper to mod and make faster then a 350z, which is partial to why i want the Evo.
How would it be, "oxy-moronic" to want atleast some safety in a sports car? I wasnt talking about me crashing it, i trust myself driving, its other drivers i dont trust that much. Worried about crash test results mainly for if other people would hit me...
But i appreciate your honest opinion on the Evo vs STi... but iam curious, u seem to be much more into the STi then the Evo, so why do u have it?
Haha hey now, the Z is a good looking car, but not practical for performance.
Hrmm how bad is the warranty on Mitsu? Will they try to void you for like a intake or a TBE? lol
Placed a order for the wheels before i even started thinking about the Evo.. now that iam unsure, the order has already been canceled
.
I must admit, whenever iam in my Z, and i see a Evo i go, "oh ****... i wonder if he wants to race or not, damn i hope that thing is dead stock, might have a chance."
lol i have basic bolt ons and pushn close to 300rwhp, but u damn Evo guys are just crazy fast.. haha
Ya i think iam going too... but heres the thing, i wanted the 05 Evo MR.. i go to my dealer to see it, test drive it, and what do they tell me... "The Evo MR was stopped production over 8months ago, we havnt had it for 8months ago, there is no such thing as an 05 MR."
Iam like wtf?

I think there were only 1000 MRs imported. So, if you can't find one on a dealer's lot, you're out of luck (unless you wait for the IX MR later this year). If you're really a serious buyer, then you're local Mitsu dealer will be able to transfer one in from another dealer.

"The Evo MR was stopped production over 8months ago, we havnt had it for 8months ago, there is no such thing as an 05 MR."
hahaha what a buncha turds. there are 3 MR's sitting at a local dealer here with a $33,500 tag
one of the reasons ppl get evo over sti eventhough sti might be safer is because many who buy performance cars don't think much about safety. for example, take s2000. it's relatively small and although i don't know about its safety ratings, i would think smaller convertibles aren't that safe against other cars. but ppl still buy them. the '05 evo has 4/5 crash ratings for all around impacts. '03-'04 evo has the same except 2/5 for side impact on driver/front pass.

It isnt me in particular that cares about safety, i was in a 350z and i bet the Evo is safer then that.. maybe.. But ya just had to ask that question so i know for my own reasons.

yea MR's are all marked '05. eventhough they stopped making them, since there were only 1000 made, not every one of them has been sold, so there's a chance u can still find one.
You know whats funny... i got the # to some guy at the same dealership today, and i told him what the other guy said, about the "No 05 MR's and that none in AZ."
He goes, "Well there are none in AZ... but what the hell? Who said there were no 05 MR's? Man i hate stupid people."
Lol, so i started talkn to him, and he said he has a dealership in Texas who has like 5 MR's, just have to see what color i want.

hahaha well i guess the latter of the 2 salesmen will be the one making commission if u go thru with it. good luck and try to get it for around $33,500, if not, don't go above $35k
i think it's pretty dumb when salespeople turn someone down 'cause they're too lazy or don't think you're serious. i've read several posts where they wouldn't let someone test drive an evo or talk to them at all and that person was ready to purchase. their loss.

Ya i dont think the salesman didnt want the business. I think he was just that dumb...
So i should ask $33500 for the MR? What about for the Evo8? He claimed he would do $100 above invoice, but cant be sure till u actually buy it.
Ya when i went to one dealership, give it iam only 17, they wouldnt let me test drive it, start it, or even get in the car!!! they didnt want me to have anything to do with it. I told them what if i came in with a briefcase full of cash, they still said no... I swear sometimes people judge u just cause of your age. O well i was pretty serious about the briefcase full of cash thing too, that would be fun :P.

17 And going from a 350z to an 05' Evo.....lol and I'm looking forward to the possibility of getting an Evo 1/2 next year!
Only problem's I could see you having with the evo (assuming you look after it right, observe a run-in period etc) Would be with the transfer case or clutch. On standard power though they should be fine. Otherwise It'll most-likely be a manufacturer's fault. Looking at Mitsubishi's track record lately....It wouldn't surprise me.
Also, I'm pretty sure the 05' USDM Evo MR's got ACD (Active Center Differential) And a 6-speed gearbox? someone else will have to clarify this.

actually ALL USDM '05 models, gsr, rs, mr, have ACD and front LSD. only mr has 6 speed. since open front differential is what gets chewed up on 03-05, u should be ok with 05 models.
goto www.edmunds.com and select "new price with options". mr invoice is $32,733 + ~$500 destination. so yea, around $33,500. try to low ball the guy
u can look up gsr and rs too.
not letting u get in the car? that's really lame. it's not like u'll burn up the clutch just sitting there.

Ya i know it was so lame... ya they thought i was gonna burn the clutch, maybe grind a few gears, stall out once or twice.. all while it was off.. lmao
O well they lost my business.
I talked to the guys at Mark Mitsubishi again today, they told me they could do $500 or so over the invoice on the MR. and $100 over invoice on the 8.
Iam lookn at KBB.com and its saying the invoice for the MR (brand new) is 34,023.75
How were you guys telln me to go with 33,500? And was that 33,500 OTD?
Whats the most i should pay OTD for the MR w/ tax? and Most OTD for the 8 w/ tax?

Oo i just checked Edmunds.com and their invoice for the car was 32733... o ya forgot KBB.com adds $500 for shipping charges.. woops.
There are no shipping charges, just tax.. damn. So how much should i ask again for each, the 8 and MR model OTD w/ tax? Both would have the options (MR options, and then the 8 w/ the sound/leather/blah blah option)

it was explained why you will not be allowed to by a fellow member who works at a dealership
