double clutch shift
double clutch shift
my boy showed me how to shift gears fast without dropping rpms between gears....
the way he shift he didnt drop rpm and throw me back in the seat !
anyone know how to do it? detail info please how-to... and is there any side affect?

i believe its like this:
1. you let the clutch out to switch gears, lets say from 3rd to 4th
2. as you shift to fourth, you rev match the rpms to what it was before you let the clutch out.
3. then finish shifting into 4th and release the clutch as usual.
should end up as seamless a shift as it can get.
someone correct if im wrong.

and by the way, if you shift quickly the engine wont have time to really drop rev's much. The double clutching you might be thinking of isnt really neccessary with new cars (late model) because of the synchros in the tranny. Back before they had syncros in the manual transmissions, double clutching was often neccessary to keep the shift going without throwing the car all over the place. I believe truckers nowadays still usually double clutch because they dont have syncros.
Your friend was probably "no-lift-shifting", aka "power-shifting", aka "flat-foot-shifting".
Simply shift gears the same way you would in a race, but don't lift you foot off of the gas.
This is usually done in conjunction with a 2-step rev-limiter and launch controller.

i'm sure you meant power shifting
double clutching is used only when slowing down (let's say you are crusing in 4th and want to slow down, you depress clutch, put in neutral, brake and slow down, then depress clutch again to put it to 2nd..... vs. braking while in gear and then downshifting)...correct me if i'm wrong
it was misused in fast and furiousl (lol) just because it sounds cool like you are double shifting super fast haha

if you never dropped rpms between gears you would be at the redline the whole time & would never accelerate (which would only happen if you had massive wheel slip) soooo......
there really is no big secret to quickshifting, you just have to practice being quick and it will eventually come to you. your friend might have done some full throttle shifting, which i wouldnt recommend doing anywhere but on the drag strip as its really hard on your clutch

is it just me or when u double clutch UP a gear it goes in smoother? I know u said its for older cars, but my shifts arent as notchy when i double clutch UP a gear. (Regular driving i'm talking about not racing)
btw, what your friend was doing is powershifting and i think its pretty much useless to be honest, well unless u want to kill your clutch. Just learn to switch gears faster.
In evo's to cant go too fast or you hear this bang noise. Anyone know what that is btw?
