Cobra VS modded Evo
I beat a stock saleen s-281 supercharged from a 10mph roll. it was a very close race we both let off at around 100mph but as we got faster I pulled away more. A stock supercharged saleen is rated at 375hp I think. My evo is not stock but it is by no means heavily modded
Being an instructor with SVT, I hate to be the bearer (sp?) of bad news. Cobras will dyno anywhere from 350-385whp stock. I have spent countless hours with folks from the clubs and their dyno sheets comparing curves, etc. It is more common than you think to get a 'friday' car, or a 'monday' car, depending on who tells the story. On the high notes, I have seen a bone stock 99GT dyno at 255+ (260rating at the crank), a stock Supra dyno at 322whp, (rated at 320 I think), and on the low notes, I have seen bone stock 01 cobra dyno at 235 (320whp 2001, before the recall fix) and an 03 Evo that only did 176whp. For the most part, cars are consistent, but there is always the 'freak' factor, which you can never discount.
So, don't discount what someone says, over my 15 years of motorsports, I have seen pretty much everything.
However, I agree, 400whp from a 2.0L is more impressive to me than 550whp from a supercharged V8.

Brother has an Cobra w/ the Kenny Bell and all the other bolt ons people do to those car. It pulls like a mother and he put down 550 at the wheels. With just a few bolt ons, he was putting down 460. It will take alot to beat most lightly modified Cobras. However, one advantage we have is weight. Cobras weigh about 400lbs more than an Evo, so we can keep up with a little less horsepower. I've heard we can run the same 1/4 mile times with about 40 less horsepower. I would not mess with one unless you are fairly well modded, or unless you know the Cobra isn't on a tire.
500hp cobras seem to be the norm so I would carefully look at the cobra you are going to race. I would really take time and look at the pully on the supercharger. that little pully can make a big difference in HP

I think Chris's car is many a EVO owners inspiration.
