Can someone help a newbie out?
Can someone help a newbie out?
I currently love my car. I have an 04 Laguna Seca Blue M3 with custom from Germany Laguna Seca Blue interior. I have exhaust, and a bunch of exterior mods. I love it! Problem is...gas prices are insane, and I commute 106 miles a day. I need something better on gas (M3 is currently getting 19.1 MPG) but still has the spunk and power that my M has.
I'm looking at the Evo, or possible MR. I searched quickly, but I need lots of info quick because this is going to be a quick change.
Is the Evo 9 out?
What is different from the Evo 8 to the MR?
What is different from the Evo 9 to the MR?
How much are these cars going for?
Are they all out in showrooms now? (I.E---Can I go buy it tomorrow and have it by next week?)
Which of these cars come in Black?
Any help on this would be GREAT! I Lurk around these forums, but never really post much.
Great site!
Thanks for your time.

I'll help you out a little, but the "search" is your friend.....
1) No
2) MR has 6-speed Tranny, aluminum roof, HID's standard (optional on 04's and 05 GSR's) and a few other goodies.
3) Not sure
4) New MR's are about 33,000-35,000. New GSR's are about 30,000-31,000
5) You should be able to find some 05's still in the dealerships
6) Only the GSR's come in black. The MR"s come in white, graphite gray, and not sure of any other color.
That's what I know off the top of my head...

In reference to gas mileage, I routinely get 25-26 mpg, which is exactly what you're supposed to get during normal driving on the highway. I drive 65 mph on straight, flat roads to and from work. I'm in hard boost occassionally when I'm trying to pass someone. In town I shift at about 3000RPM and go easy on the throttle. If you drive conservatively, you should get better mileage than you are getting in your BMW. Just be careful, though. There are guys on this forum who get 12 mpg on average because they're in boost so often. It's hard to not drive this car fast.
What is a fair OTD price of an 05 leftover or 06 Black EVO? I will go to the dealership, but I have to see if I should sell my car privately, turn it back to the dealer, or possible...keep it in the garage. I think that would be a waste of money though, but I love the car so much.

19.1 mpg on your M3 seems a little low?
If you really baby the Evo and stay off boost it's possible to get "impressive" mpg (25 mpg) on the highway, but if you drive it at all aggressively this will quickly plummet. I would guess an overall average around 20-22 mpg would be realistic for mixed driving.
If you're getting an Evo to save on gas (but retain the performance of your M3) I think you'e going to be disappointed.

This car would also be modded with the money I am saving from the M's payments. So, modding will be pretty extensive, and I think this is a better (and cheaper) car to mod to get lots-o-horsepower for the money. Not to mention it is a bit better on Gas, and just a cheaper car to have payments for.
