What is a Rockford?
What is a Rockford?
I was reading an article last night in SCC and they mention cars doing Rockfords as a gross display of horsepower. What does it mean?
Thanks,
Sam

Like a J-turn? As in the maneuver they teach you in the Secret Service for evasive action? I kinda wondered if that was it, I just can't think of how they named it.

If it's the same thing as a J-turn, Kevin Costner goes over all the basics of how to do it in a limo in the movie The Bodyguard. I hate that I know that, but it is a cool trick.

directions for Rockford:
1. Put car in reverse and accelerate in a straight line briskly to 20-25 MPH
2. Simultaneously turn wheel 1/2 turn in the direction you want to spin and lift off gas.
3. While spinning select a forward gear (usually 2nd) and straighten out the wheel.
4. Get high-five from your buddy sitting next to you

Is there a step to make sure the mullet hair is out of your eyes
I would not recommend doing this in a evo unless you like replacing parts. The reason rear wheel drive cars do it is cause they can break the tires free really easy. If you have alot of power in your evo you might be able to pull a cool one off but still not something I would recommend doing in ANY AWD car.

Actually, check this website: http://www.robbreport.com/Articles/W...ring-A-Z-3.asp
it actually says J-Turn: Reverse quickly, throw the steering wheel to one side, slide the car’s nose 180 degrees, put the car in drive, and take off. Many antiterrorist driving instructors consider the J-Turn the most effective way to escape an ambush in an urban (paved) environment. Most armored limos can’t do it. An armored SUV will tip over. For J-Turns, general evasive capabilities, and grace under fire, an armored sedan is your best bet.
