Finally got the chance to test drive an Evo IX
I went for a test drive of the Evo IX over the weekend.
I currently drive an s2000 and i am considering selling it for an Evo. Here's my impressions of the car.
1. The Evo looks great in person. The Recaros are very comfortable and the interior is better than i expected. There's a decent size boot but the rear seats lack both leg and headroom. The rear wing is MASSIVE. No wonder people say it attracts the attention of cops.
2. The suspension of the car is slightly firmer than the s2000 but it's nothing uncomfortable.
3. The engine sounds pretty good on startup. Under 3000rpm it feels quite similar to the s2000 at low revs. Once it hits 3000-3500rpm the nature of the engine changes radically. The surge in power and torque is amazing! That huge rush put a smile on my face instantly. It was truly a great feeling.
4. Gearbox was very good. It didn't feel as smooth as the S2000 but it's very accurate and solid feeling. The clutch was ok to use too. No complaints in this department.
5. The handling of the car is excellent! The steering is sensitive and the car is very willing to change directions quickly. I cornered a couple of time at quite high speed and i always get the feeling that this car is capable of a lot more. It felt safe and not twitchy at all. To be honest, I wouldn't dare to corner the same way with the s2000. I can only imagine how much fun a car like this would be at a track.
Here's a couple of things i didn't like:
1. Fair bit of road noise at high speeds
2. Speedo is too small and too approximate in reading. Do any of you guys have aftermarket speedos?
3. Insurance cost is relatively high
The Evo is truly an amazing car.
I'm very tempted right now....

Oh man, I drove an S2000 for the first 2 years till I got my Evo and you have no idea how much I wish I still had the big giant digital display.
Do it, the IX is MIVEC. The power potential is great. Also, not to sure how many you could fit in the 2000 but I think you could fit more comfortably in the IX. After all I don't think it will only be at the track.
