. I can go on and on about people here that rev high, but don't need to.
It's kind of hard to say unless your a tuner or know/work on both engine. Both can make stupid power, but im guessing with the tunning of the evo (USDM) wise, there are more people making power with the 4G63 than the SR20RT. While there are 500, 600, 700hp 4G63 running around, the same can be said for the SR20... just not that much in america. In japan, it's not contest, from what I see/read/heard there are more hi-power SR20 tuners than there are 4G63. Can somebody explain why the evo is kinda overshadow in japan compare to the old brutes like the supra, silvia or skyline? Why are people still tunning these cars more than the evo?
Virtually No one in Japan tunes Supras anymore. The fact is the Supra is not as good as the GTR, RX-7, STI and EVO without substantial work.
i think i will take this guys word since he lives in japan. You are lucky to live in Japan!
There are obviously goods and bads to both motors but that is true with all motors. They both kick a** still!

You would think that with all the aftermarket and people on the tuner scene that some company like Dart would get together and cast a SR block that you could build. They finally did it with the B18 Honda Motor, and something like the 4g's and SR's would be good, especially with people with 3g Eclipses.
I have to agree with the guy who said the hardest part about build the SR is finding a good motor. Before I bought my Cobra, I was going to build a 240 with the SR swap. I researched where to get the engine, and it seems even with the most reputable engine importers would still get bad engines frequently.
When you get to those levels of big HP, like 500+, alot of things come into play, like the DSMs tranny and the crank walk, and it gets expensive. I think where alot of people go wrong is that its relatively cheap to hit 350-400 hp (read relatively) and then as they search for more HP, more attention (read money) is needed for other areas. Alot of people skip those areas, and destroy something.

They missed the boat on LOTS of things....
Just giving examples on the QR
The only *new* 4-cylinder I've seen with improvements over what it replaces is the Honda K-series. I hope the 4G63 replacement doesn't do the SR->QR.

I understand Tomei makes RB blocks, I had thought one of the Japanese tuners made SR blocks too.
Yea I was also speaking mainly on availability of the blocks. If you could be a brand new iron block to start a build for any older eclipse or as a replacement for the Evo, wouldn't it be less of a hassel than sourcing an entire engine? But I also understand the 4g is still around, and with the Evo having much success, you don't hear of anyone blowing the block.
God only knows how much that Tomei RB block is.
Any info on the SR block being built by OBX?
