Took it into mitsubishi, turns out its just a loose connector on the solenoid for the mivec. Since I didn't understand exactly what that was I asked the service guy and he said it was no big deal. I'm hoping he was being completely honest.

Heh that doesn't sound so bad. Yesterday while driving, the clamp that holds the plastic tube to the throttle body somehow got loose and made a big bang on my IX. Scared the **** out of me but it was an easy fix lol.
