I heard that due to the design of the EVO 8 MR spring and retainers, which is totally different from EVO 7, it is not suitable for use of any high lift cams from above 272. Even for stock spring and retainers friendly cams like HKS and GSC?

Something to do with the flaw in the new design which will cause the retainer to hit the lope...

Anyone heard this before? Anyone encountered any problem with MR springs and retainers with high lift cams above 272?

 

I have a evo 8 MR w/ hks 272 cams. And I have a wierd ticking sound coming from the head. But I have been told thats pretty normal with these cams (I dont see how that can be normal. usually ticking in the head = BAD!)

 

lifter tick is normal when you start f'in with these cars, i know a guy that races solo 2 and has 280's in his MR with no problems. I have 272's and i love them

 

been running 272's with stock springs and retainers for more than a year wiht no problems.got i little bit of tick but not bad.
