Evo IX Dreams Shattered.

Well I just got back from Mitsubishi thinking if there was any possible way to end up with an Evo IX. Not that I can’t afford one, I currently own a 2003 Lancer Evolution and I just didn’t want to take a bath on my trade in not to mention the amount of mods I have on this car that I would have to remove.
So I sit down with the sales man and talk about the GG Evo IX MR, they want $39,000 for it with some B.S. appearance package markup. I showed them the recent prices a poster from CA was selling them for. I believe it was $35,000 including destination charge for an MR and I think he said he could do $36,500 BEFORE T, T & L yuck. That would be about $38,000++++ Out the door, currently they want $42,000 out the door.
Next came the second blow to my purchase. He comes back after speaking to the manager to determine an “offer” for my 03.
You ready for this?
$13,000. Yep, that is what they offered for my 2003 Lancer Evolution
. I am not sure what happened after that. Have you ever gotten so mad that adrenaline takes over and you just can’t see straight? Yeah my miles are a little high but STILL this was insane, especially when Subaru offered me $18,000. This was followed by a bunch of expletives on my behalf which in turn was followed by them stating that the sell the most Evo’s and that these prices were accuatre. I got up and said “not to me your not selling an Evo” and I believed I asked them why did they even bother wasting my time. I came in on a letter that stated they were looking for my particular brand of vehicle for a trade in. I couldn't believe what they were trying to pull off. Turns out the guy was nice and all but the numbers were no where NEAR lining up. They would not budge either way. I could not believe the markups they were asking for and the offer for a trade in, 13K, I will NEVER eat that loss, never. I don't care if the IX turns out to be the Messiah with a huge wing and spits diamonds, not gona eat that loss on a trade. They want too much for an Evo and they are asking over $30K for even a RS.
As I was leaving, another sales guy asked if I wanted to trade in my Evo, I said that it was impossible and I told them what they offered. He said why even bother to trade it in, that my ride was beautiful (Red and lowered properly and VERY clean with newer Enkie wheels) and looked as good if not better then the newer IX's. So maybe the IX isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, alteast for my trade and price plan
. My lil’ 03 still has the wow factor and still puts over 300WHP on pump gas. I know for certain my VIII would mop the floor with any Evo on that lot and even with my Sumotomo All-Season Radials; my Evo did in fact handle better then even the MR due to my coilovers, sway bars, AND corner balancing. I know this as the IX plowed through a series of turns I take regularly in my VIII and exhibited understeer even with the Advans.
Is the IX better? Probably, but my VIII is gona be faster and handle better then most IX’s on the road especially if I continue modding it, and according to depreciation, the VIII and I are going to be together for a LONG time.
For all you 03 owners, unless you have an 03 with 3 miles on it or bought the 03 used, it ain’t gona be worth it, too much of a loss.

I know people who fall for these sorts of tricks and then brag about what a great deal they got. Ever heard the old "there was a mistake on your appraisal and we actually offered you $xxxx more than we can give you". When I hear that, I walk out. They tried pulling that when I bought the EVO and then called me back while I was driving home to give me the original agreed on price. But I have friends who have gone through the routine and still bought the car. I wouldn't take it personally. Just find another dealer who is willing to deal.
Why don't you try another dealer? And anytime you're trading in, you're going to have to expect a loss from the dealer. 13k is insulting in my book. Did you try negotiating? I bet you can get it closer to 20k if you tried hard enough.
I agree with yodobashi...I used to work at a mitsu dealer, and they are all a bunch of tricksters...Another thing never trade in your car to a dealership...They will never give anything near what it worth...they would have given you 13k for your car and turned around and sold it for 24k or more...Dude if you;re really want a IX sell your car privately and go to another dealer that won't charge you 38k for an MR...it's ridiculous to pay that amount of money for a car that's 34k anywhere else...shop around man, even ebay has better deals than that on new cars...just my .02...good luck
Yeah I said all the things you were saying, rather agressively. The thing is this dealership is the one where I got my Evo in the 1st place so I THOUGHT THAT MAYBE I could get some service.
The 13K offer was NON-NEGOTIABLE too btw, oh well.

sorry to hear that man. i also wanted to trade my car for the IX MR but considering the "huge loss" that the dealer gives, it's not worth it. i wish i could afford two evos, lol.
anyway, keep looking or you could sell your evo. who knows, somebody would jump on it...

How many miles? What kind of mods? Maybe they were scared of your car for some reason. 13K sounds awfully low, but without pictures of your car and a list of its mods, its not enough to pass judgement.
A highly modded car is undesirable for most dealers because they have to stand behind the car, and warranty it if they sell it. Sure, they could mark it as-is, but most dealers don't want to go through the hassle of the headaches of selling a modded car to someone in their backyard.

I have sold modded cars to dealerships before where they sold it "As Is". Like my s2k with all suspension mods and custom turbo. Hehehe, sold extremely quickly after being test drove with a porsche boxster.....the fella drove the boxster not even half a block away and was already looking for a u-turn spot.
Any chances of parting out the car? Or, put stock stuff back on it, trade it somewhere else, then throw most parts back onto the MR?

I could part it back to stock but that would cpost me even more money and time and yadda yadda yadda. I mean I have to pull tha cams out and I can't do that not to mention pay to have my car flashed back to stock as well.
The mods did not scare them, they were infact trying to pursuade me to keep them in there. They know me and how I take care of my cars. Constantly they get kids with blown engines and blown transmissions or TC's or shifting issues. All I ever had an issue with was a rear door handle lossening and my wing/breaks fading, that's it. My 03 looks immaculate and seriously the paint looks cleaner then their new cars as I detail it so often
I have 62,000 Miles
My job requires a lot of driving, I had 33K on it the 1st year.
