I just got a ticket for unreasonable noise. The reason, my shiny buschur magnaflow catback.

In all honesty It's really because he profiles an evo as easy target for mods and sees a shiny exhaust. They stopped me last week because they deemed my wing illegal and I shouldn't have installed it there. Of course I argued and luckily showed them my owner's manual with illustrations depicting the wing. It's cold here in NYC and I cannot believe the officer would access the exhaust (which is one of the quietess I've ever heard for an EVO) with me doing 30 mph with his windows up.

I need help to build my case. Does anyone know or know where I can find the legal decibel limit in New York State?

Additionally, norcal evo net has a gallery with there own independent decibel testing but none with a buschur magnaflow catback. Does anyone know where to find an example?

Lastly, does anyone have info online that I can print stating the decibel rating of other vehicle exhausts? I got to think a mustang 5.0,srt4, deisel trucks has to be louder than my EVO.

Any help would be appreciated. It just eats me that I have to be harrassed and go through the trouble to research an argument because some cop has deemed my car illegal!

 

I have the same exhaust. I was thinking about getting it painted flat black with the high tempature paint just so it's not eye catching. It sucks we get singled out all the time meanwhile guys with harley and V8's make all the noise in the world. I think that the decible limit is 95db nationwide.

 

It is hard to win. most of catbacks are not legal. and most of modding is not leagl. remember, things you are buying is for off road use only!

LOL wings are illegal and exhaust, I guess Massachusetts is better after all.

 

I know it doesn't help you but I had a custome 3in exhaust, turbo back. We cut and put the stock tip back on. From outside the car it looks stock. knock on wood..... no one has pulled me over yet.
As far as your ticket goes. Do a little research and fight it, there's no reason for that. Like you said harleys, stupid a$$ dodge turcks (yeah they got a hemi) are the loudest things on the road and I'm sure they dont get pulled over with their dual 5in tips sticking out the back. any modification on the exhaust is illegal in ny. I mean decibal levels vary from town to town and city to city, but Ive been told by different troopers and cops that anything thats not stock is illegal. Ive also been told by a trooper that the cop giving me a citation for exhaust was a a55hole and has nothing better to do. I would like him to tell the trooper in his barracks that gave me an exhaust ticket for my honda that same thing. Its bs, they should have decibal levels in ny-the laws here are almost as bad as cali. At least there you have 95 decibals for exhaust. Put the stock muffler back on and go back to ticketing officer the next day and get it written off. My buddy @ work got off exhaust ticket stating its a after market replacement made for his model and retains evry stock part including cat and so forth and that the decibal level is under the level. After he got it dismissed he left court to come back to work and the same trooper pulled him over saying evry time I see you Im gonna pull you over and give you a ticket. What you could do is keep evrything stock except downpipe and get a electric cutout which is swich activated to just dump out the downpipe. You get about 20-25 hp. Then you can tote around town and when you have to race or want more hp then open dump tube and let her rip. I still have to go to court for the ticket on my old honda.

 

Geez...your buddy should file a complaint against the trooper that is stalking him. I wonder if the double jeopary admentment would work in his case??
