I agree, dopa. The SSL is a great package that I would like to have, too. I just preferred the MR - nothing wrong with either choice. Like Rod, you're not seeing the real issue - this guy wants to ADD EVEN MORE WEIGHT with stuff that simply is not needed nor recommended on an Evo. The moonroof and leather recaros are nice. Adding some expensive aftermarket leather, a big stereo system with 2 subs, and an aftermarket moonroof in a steel, reinforced roof just is not smart, though.

Okay, got it. In that case, I can agree with you.

I have the SSL and love it. Most real sports cars have leather :P The SSL sound is not near what I am used too , but it does the job. My 2.3 going in and the 35R soon to come will make up for it. Since we are all driving a "REAL" drivers car, I think gutting it would be the best for performance..... Screw that ! I like my luxuries.

Um, I got it from the factory brochure, which is sitting right here on my desk, next to me: Without SSL the curb weight is 3274. With, it's 3309. You do the math.

And ... I was talking about the SSL, as I think I made clear.

Well, I don't know why the brochure is wrong, but here are the REAL weights:

http://mitsubishimotors.com/MMSA/jsp...jsp?t=exterior

RS - 3219
IX - 3263
MR - 3285
IX w/SSL - 3338 (53 heavier than the MR, 75 heavier than the base IX, 119 heavier than the RS)

All right, good enough; I suspect the web site weights are correct since they're more specific than the ones in my brochure, which doesn't break them down by models. Touche.

I still don't find the difference to, er, outweigh the utility I get out of the SSL features, much less make any appreciable performance difference, but to each his own. Cheers.

You'd see it on the track vs an MR...

I am sorry, but that is a dumb comment. It is OK to have a fast, yet comfortable car. When I buy an EVO, I will want the SSL package because I like leather and like having a sunroof. THere is nothing wrong with wanting a comfortable ride, dare I say luxurious ride, in an EVO.

OK, given equal drivers and all that, it might make a tiny difference. In my experience on road courses, though, the better driver can kick a$$, even in a base Corolla.

Last time I drove Laguna Seca I was hounding an Evo all over the track ... in my bone stock RX-8, which had only a fraction of its power. Not that I'm such a great driver; the Evo driver was a complete wimp.

I just get so tired of people taking this incredible performance car, then investing another $5,000 - $10,000 taking it even further over the top, and all they want to do is drive it straight down a drag strip or boast about their dyno numbers; they haven't any idea of the kind of driving the car was designed for, much less how to do it.

But that's an off-thread rant and I'm not directing it at you. I actually agree; it's all a matter of taste.

That makes more sense, I can kind of agree with this...You could always just take the subs out though for track purposes...

For the 5th time, I think the SSL Evo is very nice, and I like it a lot. I just wanted more of a performance focus with my MR. I like sun, sound, and leather, too, just not as much as bilsteins, BBS, 6spd, and aluminum roof.

My comment that you quoted was in reference to this guy wanting to put in a big stereo system, some crazy aftermarket leather in place of the regular leather, and a aftermarket moonroof cut into his stock steel roof with reinforcement bars. Please pay closer attention before referring to any of my comments as "dumb."
